The narrow, old roads that cut throught the Beau-Sejour Becot vineyards just outside the village.
Each Sunday I am digging out some
of my forgotten cellar gems and offering them on
Sunday mornings.
You can count on finding some very fine older wines
that are
priced at a fraction of their latest vintages but are
usually in to small a quantity to offer in my regular
weekly email.
These older wine offers are fully mature and ready to
drink.
Good
hunting.
Two Vintages 2000 & 2003 Chateau Beau Sejour Becot
A Modern St Emilion Beauty 3 cases of each
CHATEAU BEAUSE-JOUR BECOT St Emillion PGCC Rated 93
" From a 41-acre vineyard situated on St.-Emilion's limestone plateau, Beau-Sejour-Becot's blend can vary, but it is approximately 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Production can be as low as 4,000+ cases (in a tiny vintage such as 2003), or as high as 7,000+ cases (in an abundant year such as 2004). The 2003, which reminds me of a 1990 Right Bank Bordeaux, tips the scales at 13.5% alcohol. Its dark plum/ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of creosote, scorched earth, black cherries, currants, and pain grille. Deep, full-flavored, muscular, textured, and rich with light to moderate tannin in the finish, this lavishly rich, full-bodied effort requires 1-3 years of bottle age, and should drink well over the following 12-15 years" . CHATEAU BEAUSE-JOUR BECOT St Emillion PGCC Rated 94 " This the greatest Beau Sejour-Becot I have ever
tasted. The opaque purple 2000 has put on
weight
during its elevage and, from the bottle, appears to be
spectacular. The wood is well-integrated, and the
fruit, glycerin, and overall flavor dimensions are
noteworthy. The bouquet smells of ink, espresso,
jammy blackberries and currants, wet stones, and
licorice. Super-pure and fabulously extracted, with
high tannin, full body, a thick texture, and awesome
richness and length, this blockbuster effort will be at
its finest between 2008-2025." Rated 94, Robert Parker The
Wine Advocate
Michel Bécot retired in 1985, turning over the
management of the
Château to his two sons Gérard and Dominique. The
two brothers have made this one of the most
consistent and top performing St Emilion estates
since the late 1980s. In the legendary 2000 vintage
they made a superb wine of World Class
Standards.
This property is located on one of the "sweet" spots
of St. Emilion on the
limestone
plateau. The
wine is barrel-aged in up to 90% new oak and then
bottled
without being fined or filtered.
The official ranking of St Emilion wines is a bit
complicated but it starts at Grand Cru, The very good
estates are rated Grand Cru Classe and the
best performig chateaux are rated Premier Grand
Cru Classe. Chateau Beau Sejour Becot is in
the very limited Premier Grand Cru Classe
group.
