The Chateau Cotes de Baleau A great Success in St Emillion for 2000
Every Sunday at 7:30 am I'm going deep
into my wine cellar to pull out the last of
some very great bottles. I promise rare wines
for the cellar- builder in very limited
quantities, gems of astonishing quality
carrying highly pedigreed labels that will
tempt the most temperate among us.
So, don't hit the snooze! These wines will be
gone, gone, gone, quickly.
"Bordeaux 2000- One of Bordeaux's Greatest Vintages"
This is limited to a few amazing
values, now 10 years old, under perfect storage
and all but one Margaux under
$40 per bottle by the case.
Quantities limited to a case or two of each wine
You probably know by now that the 2000 and
2005 vintages are the most outstanding
vintages ever to come out of Bordeaux, but
you'd have to be a little crazy to be
uncorking most of those classified 2005s
right now; they need their beauty rest, so
this is a chance to uncork some gorgeous
2000s at some pretty attractive,
pre-euro-explosion prices.
It's important for you to know that they have been
in temperature-control (55 degrees) since
they arrived from the Chateaux in France.
They have been patiently waiting in their
wooden boxes for you to make a move.
Chateau Pin Beausoleil - St Emilion

"Highly respected Stephane Derenoncourt is the
consultant at this 12.5-acre vineyard planted with 60%
Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet
Sauvignon, and 3% Malbec. The 2000 displays
wonderfully sweet, ripe black currant fruit intermixed
with tobacco smoke, licorice, and espresso. Ripe,
opulent, and fleshy, it is ideal for drinking over the next
3-4 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage." -

$50/bottle, 10 bottles left $290 for 6 bottles, 12 bottle case $575 ($48)
A great sleeper of the vintage, this fully mature wine, made by Helene Garcin, has loads of deep raspberry and black cherry fruit with hints of licorice, toasty oak, and spice box. It is plush, succulent, and hedonistic, yet at the same time complex. I loved their 1998, and this wine seems to have turned out just as well. It has reached full maturity, where it should stay for at least a 10 to 15-year period.Robert Parker. 2 cases available
Chateau Matinens Margaux

"An elegant, Burgundian-styled perfume of camphor
and tangy red cherries is followed by a medium-
bodied wine with ripe tannin, a sweet attack, a quick,
hollow mid-palate, and a short finish. If more flesh and
charm develop, it may merit a higher score...
Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012.." -

12-bottle case ($35) "From the Reiffers family, who are also responsible for two other up and coming St.-Emilions, Clos St.-Martin and Grandes Murailles, this is another outstanding wine. Deep purple-colored, it exhibits sweet cherry, plum, and currant aromas and flavors with subtle mineral and wood notes, excellent texture, medium to full body, and ripe tannin. The overall impression is a well-delineated, impeccably elegant wine with class and grace. Michel Rolland does the oenological consulting for all of the Reiffers' estates. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018."R ParkerOne 12 bottle case
Chateau Haut Chaigneau Lalande de Pomerol -Rated 88-89

"Oenologist Andre Chatonnet, has made a fine
Lalande de Pomerol. A sleeper of the vintage
, the deep, concentrated, pure, elegant 2000
Haut-Chaigneau possesses abundant amounts of
black fruits intermixed with notes of caramel.
Succulent, pure, and fleshy." -

Chateau l"Archange St Emilion-
Rated
90 RP
$45/bottle, $265 for 6 bottles, $480 per
12-bottle case ($40)
An elegant, pure, stylish wine from proprietor Pascal Chatonnet, the 2000 l'Archange exhibits a deep saturated purple color, with a sweet nose of black cherries and blackberries. It is sweet, rich, medium to full-bodied, with low acidity, and plush, concentrated fruit flavors. The wine reveals some tannin, but it is largely obscured by the impressive ripeness and fleshy style. Anticipated maturity:2005-2014

Chateau Sansonnet St Emilion - Rated 88-90
RP 10 bottles left
$37/bottle, $216 for 6 bottles, $399 for all 10 bottles
" A sleeper of the vintage , this wine was
vinified under
the supervision of Jean-Michel Arcaute. An opaque
purple-colored effort, it exhibits sweet, smoky aromas
of prunes, black raspberries, cassis, and cherries.
Firmly-structured, medium to full-bodied, and ripe, it is
reminiscent of Clinet vintages of the late eighties. If
everything comes together, the 2000 Sansonnet will
merit an outstanding score. There is plenty of
concentration, potential complexity and depth.
Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018.." -
