Parker, Tanzer, La Revue du Vin de France, Wine Spectator - they all agree: "There is no question that 2009 is going to be one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of our lifetimes."

Robert Parker on the 2009 Bordeaux, "Some of the greatest wines I have tasted in 32 years"

I have a very limited amount of the two amazing successes from Cos d' Estournel. This is one of the top wines of the vintage and the best Cos ever produced. Their second wine is a relative bargain and on its own one of the top wines in the Medoc in 2009. It is better than many classified growths and benefits from everything that contributed to the Cos perfect score

The price of Cos is nothing less than breathtaking. 100 point wines are rare and the demand is global. Consider the wonderful second wine - it is a smart wine lovers bargain - especially for 2009.

CHATEAU COS d' ESTOURNEL St Estephe 2009 Parker Rated 98-100* $4899 per 12-bottle case ($408) 2 cases available
"The 2009 Cos d'Estournel is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted ... in the world! An extraordinary effort I tasted on two separate occasions, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot with a dollop of Cabernet Franc has a whopping 14.5% alcohol, but a remarkably normal pH of 3.69. Kudos to Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier for this amazing wine made from yields of 33 hectoliters per hectare. It will be a legendary claret that should last for 50-60 years. A black/purple color is accompanied by aromas of graphite, ink, creme de cassis, blackberries, cedar, and incense. Full-bodied and unctuously textured, with an ethereal personality, tons of nuances, and a burgeoning complexity, it is an enormously well-endowed, fresh, perfectly balanced tour de force in winemaking. As mentioned above, it should drink well for 50-60 years. This wine possesses this vintage's classic characteristics of enormous power, massive fruit, and extraordinary freshness and precision - largely unprecedented, particularly for Cabernet-based wines in the Medoc. " Robert Parker

And from the same estate their extraordinary second wine:

PAGODES de COS St Estephe 2009 Rated 91-94* $789 per 12-bottle case ($66) 5 cases available
"The 2009 Les Pagodes de Cos is also a remarkable offering. Composed of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, it tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol, and is better than most Cos d'Estournel vintages produced in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. It is a full-bodied, opulently concentrated wine of amazing richness, density, and intensity. As with the grand vin, the harvest began on September 26 and finished on October 10. This wine possesses this vintage's classic characteristics of enormous power, massive fruit, and extraordinary freshness and precision - largely unprecedented, particularly for Cabernet-based wines in the Medoc. " Robert Parker

Here is what the press says about 2009:

"...virtually everyone agreed that '09 will go down in history as the greatest Bordeaux vintage of all time." Whoa! -Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"The reasons for such high praise? A seemingly endless line-up of remarkably concentrated yet balanced wines, and the possibility that more properties than ever before have made what may end up being their best wine of all time. There are also rich pickings in the value-for-money appellations of Castillon, Francs and Fronsac." -Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"A lot of people make comparisons to 1982, which I have to agree with to some extent but, honestly, I think they are better." James Suckling Wine Spectator

There you have it. Consensus on the quality of the 2009s.

Two Reasons to Buy Bordeaux Futures (in Great Vintages)

First it assures you access to the best wines before they are sold out. The top rated wines often sell out in Bordeaux within a day and often in hours. Second, while you do pay in advance you will get a substantial discount to their price once they reach the US (if they are available at all) In 2005 this discount was from 30 to 100%.
