Leoville Barton in St Julien 2000 is one of the greatest ever

Every Sunday at 7:30 am I'm going deep into my wine cellar to pull out the last of some very great bottles. I promise rare wines for the cellar- builder in very limited quantities, gems of astonishing quality carrying highly pedigreed labels that will tempt the most temperate among us.

So, don't hit the snooze! These wines will be gone, gone, gone, quickly.

Please note: these wines have been in temperature-control since they arrived from France.

2000 Classified Bordeaux
Graves, St Julien, St Estephe, Margaux Stars from the
Colossal 2000 Vintage

You should have a lot of 2000s in your cellar if you're expecting anything great to happen to yourself in a lifetime. These are the pinnacle wines from a pinnacle vintage. The first great vintage of the decade and the one now reaching its full potential. You will make a lot of friends when they see these coming to the table.

Great Vintage Bordeaux at 10 years old is hitting their peak with the perfect balance of youth fruit and astounding complexity.

Chateau L'Arrivet-Haut-Brion Blanc- Pessac Leognan (Graves) - Wine Spectator 88 36 bottles left $39 per bottle, 12 bottle case $359 ($29.99)
Graves is the appellation for the best Bordeaux Whites "Clean and fruity, with green apple, light celery and just a hint of new wood. This is always a solid Bordeaux white. Best after 2003. 2,080 cases made."-JS Wine Spectator

Chateau Calon Segur - St Estephe - Parker 93 - 12 bottles left $140 per bottle, 12 bottle case $1499 ($125)
"A dense, traditionally crafted wine for those with patience, the 2000 Calon-Segur rivals the estate's finest wines of the last two decades, the 1995, 1988, and 1982. But be forewarned, this wine has already closed down, something totally in character with all top vintages from this estate. This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc exhibits a plum/purple color along with gorgeous aromas of creosote intermixed with spring flowers, black cherries, cassis, licorice, and stony, liquid minerals. A powerful, tannic, full-bodied and opulent wine, it possesses considerable structure that is reasonably well-concealed by considerable glycerin and intensity. Look for it to be at its best between 2012-2040. Patience, patience, patience!" R Parker WA

Chateau Haut Bergey - Pessac Leognan (Graves) - R Parker 94 - 12 bottles left - $70 per bottle, 12 bottle case $775 ($65)
"A stunning achievement from this unheralded vineyard, the saturated ruby/purple-colored 2000 displays a striking perfume of cigar smoke, scorched earth, roasted espresso, and intense black cherry/currant fruit. It possesses luxurious richness, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and a seamless, silky-textured finish that lasts for nearly 45 seconds. This brilliant achievement satisfies both the hedonistic and intellectual senses. Moreover, it is a good value, and surprisingly accessible in spite of its density. A bottle kept open for 5 days never revealed any oxidation ... always a good barometer of a wine's aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020." R Parker WA

Leoville Barton St Julien Parker 96. 24 bottles $150 per bottle $1800 per 12 bottle case.
"Absolutely spectacular from bottle, but frightfully closed and backward, with massive power and structure, the saturated purple-colored 2000 Leoville Barton is one of the greatest wines ever made at this estate. The wine has smoky, earthy notes intermixed with graphite, camphor, damp earth, jammy cassis, cedar, and a hint of mushroom. Enormous, even monstrous in the mouth, with tremendous extraction, broodingly backward, dense flavors, and copious tannins, this should prove to be one of the longest-lived wines of the vintage and one of the most compelling Leoville Bartons ever made. R Parker

Chateau Sociando Mallet - Haut Medoc - Parker 93 only 9 bottles left $95 per bottle
"A breathtakingly beautiful Sociando-Mallet with a dense ruby/purple color and a bouquet of ink, mineral, graphite, vanilla, and creme de cassis, the 2000 boasts superb concentration, great definition and intensity, ripe tannin, and a long finish of more than 40 seconds. This is top-flight, classified growth-quality stuff. So what's new? This continues to be an over-achieving estate! It will be long-lived. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2028." R Parker WA

Chateau Chasse Spleen - Moulis - Parker 88-89 12 bottles left (2 wooden 6-pack) $69 per bottle $399 per 6 bottle case-
"A classic, muscular, rich yet elegant effort made in a medium to full-bodied, concentrated style, the 2000 Chasse-Spleen possesses abundant quantities of minerals, earth, black cherry, and cassis fruit. It will need 4-5 years of cellaring, and will keep for two decades." R Parker WA

Domaine de Chevalier - Pessac Leognan (Graves) - Parker 90 - 12 bottles left - $109 per bottle, $1199 per 12 bottle case
One of the great reds of Graves just below Haut Brion "The finest Domaine de Chevalier in over a decade, this opaque purple-colored effort exhibits abundant character with its striking aromatic profile of burning coals, plums, currants, tobacco, and spice box. Some oak is present, but it is well-integrated in this rich, medium to full-bodied, elegant, pure 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025." R Parker WA
