The lovely Chateau Lanessan label
Robert Parker on the 2009
Bordeaux, "Some of the greatest wines I have
tasted in 32 years"
This week's offer is for two super
over-achievers. #1 is
Chateau Lanessan in the Medoc from just
outside St
Julien. #2 is from just outside Saint-Emilion.
Both are Robert Parker "Sleepers of the
Vintage"
, his designation for the potential best
values in all
Bordeaux. They are both rated 90-92 and are
less that
$19 per bottle. Think about grabbing both
while supply
lasts. There are only 10 cases of each.
CHATEAU LANESSAN - Haut Medoc - 2009
Rated 90-92 Robert Parker $239 per
case
($19.92)
"Generally a St.-Julien/Pauillac-like
offering, the 2009 Lanessan seems more
explosive and concentrated than prior
vintages. I'm not sure it is the finest I
have ever tasted, but it boasts a dense
purple color as well as copious creme de
cassis, cedar wood, underbrush, and spice
notes. Beautiful opulence, silky tannins, and
a long finish suggest this sleeper of the
vintage will drink well for 2-3 decades.
(Tasted once.) RATED 90-92" -

CHATEAU FAIZEAU - Montagne-St.-Emilion -
Vieilles Vignes 2009
Rated 90-92 Robert Parker $239 per case
($19.92)
"Another winner from these old vines (mostly
Merlot), this sleeper of the vintage
from the
Raynaud family that owns La Croix de Gay and
La Fleur de Gay in Pomerol exhibits a dense
ruby/purple color as well as wonderful mocha
and black cherry jam notes. Fleshy and
full-bodied with outstanding purity and a
heady, potent finish (the alcohol must exceed
14%), it should drink nicely for a decade or
more. (Tasted once.) RATED 90-92" -

There is no question that 2009 is going to be
one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of our
lifetimes. Parker, Tanzer, La Revue du Vin de
France, Wine Spectator - they all agree.
Let's hear
what the big names have been saying about the
2009s.
"In short, I do not think I have ever
tasted
such extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons,
and I
believe the 2009 is at its greatest in the
Medoc and Graves." Robert Parker Wine
Advocate April 2010
"Everywhere I went in the two weeks I spent
tasting the 2009 wines in Bordeaux, the song
remained the same: simply put, virtually
everyone agreed that '09 will go down in
history as the greatest Bordeaux vintage of
all time." Whoa! -Stephen
Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
"The reasons for such high
praise? A
seemingly endless line-up of remarkably
concentrated yet balanced wines, and the
possibility that more properties than ever
before have made what may end up being their
best wine of all time. There are also rich
pickings in the value-for-money appellations
of Castillon, Francs and Fronsac." -Stephen
Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
"A
lot of people make comparisons to 1982, which
I have to agree with to some extent but,
honestly, I think they are better." James
Suckling Wine Spectator
There you have it. Consensus on the quality
of the 2009s.
Two Reasons to Buy Bordeaux
Futures (in
Great
Vintages) First it
assures you
access to
the best wines
before they are sold out. The top rated wines
often sell
out in Bordeaux within a day and often in hours.
Second while you do pay in advance you will
get a substantial discount to their price
once they
reach the US (if they are available at all)
In 2005 this discount was from 30 to 100%.
