News Flash for QuickBooks 2007 Users: Support Ends 5/31/2010

Use QuickBooks Pro, Premier or Enterprise 2007?

If so, be aware that you may be forced into an upgrade on or before May 31, 2010.

If you are using any QuickBooks services such as payroll, credit card processing or online banking, those services will no longer work with QuickBooks 2007 products as of 5/31/10.

The only way to continue using these services is to upgrade to QuickBooks 2010.

If you are NOT using any of these services, you can continue to use QuickBooks 2007 products without interruption. Be aware that you will no longer be able to get product support for it though.

In essence, if you have a problem with QuickBooks 2007 after it "sunsets" on 5/31/10, you instantly have two of them if you call support. The first is the original problem that prompted the call, and the second is that they will not help you with it.

For all the details about the Intuit sunset policies for QuickBooks, be sure to visit their web page.

New Apps in the Intuit App Center

QuickBooks has taken a page out of the Apple playbook and created an "App Center" for software that works with QuickBooks.

In the App Center, you will find solutions focused on:
  • Running Your Business
  • Managing Your Work
  • Reducing Costs
  • Growing and Managing Customers
Many of the solutions found here have no cost associated with them, and others have a fee to download and use them. In most cases, you need to have QuickBooks 2010 to use these applications, while others will work with older versions too.

The App Center gives you an excellent opportunity to "try before you buy" when it comes to certain applications that work with QuickBooks. I expect to see a lot of growth in this area in the coming months.

Don't forget the Intuit Marketplace as your one stop shop for QuickBooks add-ons.

Need help sorting out all of these options to find what is best for the specific needs of your business?

My software selection service may be just the ticket you need. Contact me for more information and insight - let me get the headache researching add-ons so you don't have to.

ALERTS - Here a Scam, There a Scam.

Unfortunately, the bad guys are
still at it.

They continue to send out e-mails that look to be from Intuit/QuickBooks advising that you MUST download an update to your QuickBooks software in order to solve a problem with a digital certificate and some other nonsense. Those that have fallen for this trick have infected their computers with viruses and other bad things.

DON'T DO IT!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT!

All of the product updates that need to occur within QuickBooks can be found by clicking Help > Update QuickBooks in the menu bar.

In addition, it is just part of good, safe computing practices not to download or install ANY attachments from anyone until they are verfied to be safe.
