2012 Forestry OutlookForestry Included in the KY Agricultural Economic  Outlook 
The forestry sector was included in the Kentucky Agricultural Economic Outlook for the first time. The outlook was presented at the recent Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting held in Louisville on December 1. Ohio River Valley
Woodland and Wildlife Workshop

Mark your calendars now for the Ohio River Ohio River Valley Woodland & Wildlife WorkshopValley Woodlands and Wildlife Workshop which will be held on March 24, 2012.  It is designed to provide woodland owners, with forestry and wildlife related educational opportunities from forestry and wildlife experts from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. The event will be held at Kings Island Resort and Conference Center in Mason, Ohio. Visit www.tristatewoods.org for the latest details.  

Emerald Ash Borer Continues to Spread

Unfortunately, the emerald ash borer (EAB) was found in six more counties recently.  This invasive insect species is a threat to all ash trees.  For additional information about EAB please visit the UK Forestry Extension EAB page at www.ca.uky.edu/forestryextension/EAB.php

Forestry Resources is for Everyone -
Especially Those in High School

Envirothon competition attracts high school students from across the nation. This year the national event will be held in Pennsylvania with the special topic of Non Point Source Pollution and Low Impact Development. A "retreat" for this event will be held in Kentucky to give the students that have a desire to learn more about these topics is being planned for January 5 and 6, 2012. If you are a coach with students interested in participating in this year's event, consider attending this two day event.

Kentucky Forest Leadership Program

KFLP is designed for juniors or seniors in high school that have an interest in forest resource management. The week long Kentucky Forest Leadership Program held at Jabez, Kentucky (near Somerset) provides students an understanding of how the forests in Kentucky are managed to make them healthy as well as highly productive.
