Centurion Medical Products HQ Achieves LEED Gold

LEED Gold White

Neumann/Smith

designed a 73,000 sf headquarters for Centurion Medical Products on a 37-acre site in a newly created R&D development in Williamston, MI.

Although the building is a two-story structure composed of bold geometric forms, the design emphasizes horizontal lines.  Exterior sun shades and tall translucent glass windows maximize exterior views
and provide a visual tie to the rural surroundings.

Clerestory glass in the main atrium, which runs through the middle of the building, brings natural light into the inteior spaces.  An under-floor air delivery system also allows for flexible cable management.  Work stations and  movable partitions are easily reconfigured.  Enhanced lighting, suspended art forms and warm inviting colors create a dynamic environment.

Sustainable Design

Each year CAM Magazine conducts a search for Michigan's most outstanding green or sustainable design and construction project.  The Centurion headquarters has achieved that distinction in addition to LEED Gold.

An energy efficient exterior envelope delivers an insulation R value of 28% over the required energy code while high efficiency mechanical and electrical systems out-perform the base model by nearly 20%.  The building design incorporates water-efficient plumbing fixtures, individual environmental controls, materials with recycled content and low VOC emitting interior finishes.

Native and drought resistant plants were used to reduce irrigation needs.  When irrigation is required, water will be delivered by a drip line system and a SmartLine controller that regulates water flow based on actual evapotranspiration rates.

Strict adherence to construction waste management practices throughout the demolition and construction phases of the project diverted over 466 tons of materials from landfill.

All of our projects incorporate sustainable strategies that conserve resources, reduce energy and operating costs, enhance aesthetic goals, and promote health and productivity. Over 60% of Neumann/Smith's architects and interior designers are LEED Accredited Professionals and we've designed nearly two million square feet of LEED Certified and LEED Registered projects.
