With an edgy industrial design and high-energy graphics and furniture, Neumann/Smith transformed the hsitoric Madison Building into a showcase for Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert's dream of a digital entrepreneurial economy in downtown Detroit.
The space features inspiring spaces for anchor businesses, a "desk-for-a-day" environment for enterprising "techies".
The goal was to keep as much of the existing interiors intact as possible. The clay tile walls and ceilings, exposed brick and concrete and steel columns are key components of the design. Even the graffiti was incorporated into the new space.
The building's roof deck features a view of Comerica Park and up Woodward Avenue to the Fox Theater that is arguably the best in the City. The space includes two bars, multiple flat screen televisions, and a commercial kitchen with three barbecues.
Nearly 10,000 sf, the 5th floor offers state-of-the-art meeting and gathering spaces including a two-story auditorium that seats 140 people, two private conference rooms, lounge seating and tables, and bar facilities. A full catering kitchen supports the various functions.
Offices feature open workspace with a mix of benching and meeting areas. High-energy graphics and furniture and LED lights contrast the exposed vintage structure.
