Katrina Boldry managed to successfully launch and grow her business in the midst of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. And she did it with Mi Casa's help.

Through her business, Bold Lead Designs, Katrina designs and creates multifunctional dog leashes, as well as harnesses for service animals. "It's fascinating to me how much dogs add to our lives," Katrina says. "If I can contribute to improving the experience of service dog owners and make the world more accessible to them, I want to do all I can."

Katrina quit her job in the summer of 2010 to focus full-time on her business, and she estimates this year her personal earnings from Bold Lead Designs will surpass what she made in her old job. Katrina projects more than $100,000 in sales in 2011, which is nearly double what she grossed in 2010. With her specialty niche, loyal customer base and growing interest from service dog owners and groups, Katrina sees no end to her business' growth prospects.

Katrina completed Mi Casa's 13-week Business Success course in 2008 and continues to rely on Mi Casa's business consultants for guidance.  "Launching a business is an overwhelming process, and it's so helpful to be able to rely on Mi Casa to clarify the details and help keep things rolling," she says. "It's an invaluable resource."

Gay & Lesbian Fund logo Colorado is home to families with deep, multi-generational roots as well as families who relocate here in pursuit of a better quality of life. At the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, we believe that our support of local nonprofits creates a deeper understanding that our state is a better place to live, work, and play when every person has the opportunity and resources they need to thrive.

We believe strong communities begin with strong families. A goal of the Gay & Lesbian Fund is to support nonprofits that ensure quality in health and well being for all Coloradans. That's why we proudly partner with organizations that devote their energy and expertise to eliminating disparities for Colorado's children, youth, and families. Their commitment to healthy families unlocks Colorado's highest potential, and creates a more vibrant state.

In partnership with Mi Casa Resource Center, the Gay & Lesbian Fund is building a Colorado founded on the health and vitality of everyone, from our youngest residents to our most mature, and everyone in between.

The Gay & Lesbian Fund is the Silver Sponsor of Mi Casa's 2011 Spirit of Success Luncheon, a celebration of small business ownership in Southern Colorado, which takes place in Pueblo on September 28.

El Diablo's tatoo skull show and charity auction is in honor of Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. All proceeds from the auction of the tattooed skulls will benefit Mi Casa!

The event will feature a Latin/hip-hop DJ, face painters, food and drink specials, and a show featuring skulls painted and decorated by local tattoo artists. The silent auction goes from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the winners will be announced and the skulls will be awarded around 10:30 p.m.

Mi Casa is grateful to El Diablo for organizing this awesome event and to the tattoo artists from around Colorado who volunteer their time and talent to hand-paint a "sugar skull" to be auctioned off in support of our mission of economic success for Latino families.
