In Evolution - being more of you:

Get out of your mind...

For many years I was a smoker. LOVED IT!

Seriously, I loved smoking. I would go back to it in a

nano-second if it wasn't bad for you.

But there were two things I didn't like about it. One, was the constant guilt I experienced knowing I was consciously doing something harmful to myself (= lack of self-worth). And two,

I didn't like to be addicted (= lack of self-acceptance) to

anything.

Addiction doesn't work well for me. Frankly, it doesn't align

with my "You're not the boss of me!" personality.

It finally got to the point where I needed to decide whether I wanted to sink my energy into something that was actually depleting me of energy. Or, if I wanted to put that same
energy
into letting the habit go because the habit itself was taking a lot of energy! (Addictions take a lot of energy to sustain.)

It was really a "lesser of two evils" question for me.

So, I said "screw it," and I quit.

I wasn't being holier-than-thou about it, or feeling noble, trying
to prove something, or advocating granola bar behavior; I don't
go "all natural" or obsess about everything I eat being organic, blah, blah, blah.

I just said, "Screw it."

It wasn't easy or fun. It didn't feel great for a while. However,
I learned that just because something doesn't feel good,
doesn't mean it's still not the best choice.

(Whenever you're in a process of changing something, it's likely
it won't feel good for a while...simply because it feels so
different.)

I've never looked back. And that experience began to build a
foundation for me to let go of all of the "addictions" in my life;
to substances, habits, beliefs, illusions, relationships, and people that did not honor, respect, accept, or genuinely care for me.

It also alerted me to the simple truth that sometimes making great change is no more complex than just
saying "screw it"
and doing it.

Everything else...is mind.

Over time I not only created a life I really love, but I built a
solid foundation of self-acceptance, self-respect, self-worth,
and self-trust that has carried me through some unbelievable changes and challenges in the last several years.

But enough about me, back to...mind.

As we have looked at in the last several email messages, we
now live in a world driven by the mind. We have come
to believe in the superiority and importance of the mind -
thinking, intellect, and more and more information - to the detriment of the well-being of all aspects of who we are.

Thus, we're actually creating our lives - structuring our institutions, building habits, patterning our day-to-day activities, altering our beliefs - to validate that belief in mind. And all
the texting, tweeting, television, social networking, sexting,
gaming - that we engage in every day - keeps that belief
in
place.

In other words - with both our belief and our actions each day - we are strengthening and fortifying our belief that the mind is more powerful and more important than the rest of us. So, we
are actually creating the energy that is impeding and obstructing us!

Moreover, we are literally inundating our consciousness with
mind - "mental stuff" - 24/7.

So, why does any of this matter...in practical, tangible terms?

1. If your conscious mind is inundated with all that mental stuff,
you cannot be in balance with all of you.

2. If you're not in balance with all of you, it's likely you're not
able to make the best decisions, take good care of you, truly
enjoy your life, or genuinely empower your self...every day.

Moreover, your unconscious mind never has the
opportunity to
constructively and creatively join
"the dance" of your life.

This is limiting and can become dangerous.

What do I mean?

It is limiting because you have a whole lot of untapped
creativity, compassion, innovation, ingenuity, inspiration,
and wisdom within your own unconscious. So, if you can't
keep your
conscious mind clear and open...you can't
get to the good stuff.

It is dangerous because when you are not in a "dance" with
your unconscious mind - as well as your conscious mind -
you're not resolving your own issues. You're not engaged in
an open, on-going, evolving process of resolving all that stuff
you have repressed, suppressed, withheld, anesthetized or ignored.

Instead, you're walking around with all that stuff - anger,
fear, hurt, regret, sadness, rage, etc. - impacting your life
every day; in ways you may not even be fully aware of.

If you don't have healthy ways to experience, express, and
resolve your "stuff" it becomes: illness, illusion, manipulation, depression, and dysfunction...even violence.

If you store up enough of that stuff...the unconscious mind has more "energy" in it than the conscious mind. Then the
unconscious mind will, so to speak, commandeer the ship.

What does that mean?

It means that no matter what you may consciously want; no matter what you physically "do," no matter how hard you try...you cannot seem to change things.

Sound vaguely familiar?

Why is this so? Because the unconscious mind is saying, "Hey man, there's no more space in here, you gotta help me resolve some of this sh*t!!!" (Cheech & Chong voice effect there...)

All that "stuff" is what creates depression, dysfunction, divorce,
attachments, addictions, anxiety, eating disorders, and disease.
That "stuff" is why you cannot seem to "quit" certain things;
you simply do not possess the energy to do so. You have
got to clear out - resolve - some of your sh*t!

Just like your body, your mind (and your emotions) need
to be
cleared out, too.

So, if you're inundating your conscious mind every day with a whole lot of stuff and then not tending well to all four aspects of you - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual - you're not
giving your conscious mind the opportunity to balance
and clear.

If your conscious mind isn't cleared out, your unconscious mind
cannot join the dance. If your unconscious mind cannot join the
dance, it will simply keep storing up your sh*t until it implodes
or explodes.

An explosion looks like divorce, accident, money problems, adultery, more yoga, more running, more dieting, etc. An implosion looks like illness, disease, depression, addiction,
anxiety, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, eating
disorders, etc.

Plus, you will never have access to all of the wisdom, creativity, compassion, ingenuity, innovation, inspiration...and true power that you possess.

Phew!

Eventually what this produces is people like Jared Loughner who shot Congresswoman Gabby Giffords in Arizona. Or news outlets like those created by Rupert Murdoch. Or killers like the man in Oslo. Or so-called leaders who value personal beliefs over sense, sensitivity, and sensibility. I can go on and on.

This lack of balance within us - and within our world - eventually
creates a whole lot of people roaming around with low grade
pathologies. Seriously.

Am I trying to depress the hell out of you?
Am I trying to scare the Be-Jesus out of you?

No. Sincerely, no.

Bottom line?

Balance.

Your mind isn't your master; it isn't more important or more powerful than your emotions, your physical body, or your spirituality.

If you want to change your life and impact those around you -
and the world - in positive and productive ways...balance you.

Each day tend well to your body, your sexuality, your emotional
experiencing, expressing and well-being, and to the spirit of
you; whatever that is for you. Tend well to your money, too.

Each day clear your mind, change your mind, examine your beliefs, stay open, contemplate, meditate; begin to discover
all the peace, power, and creativity that lies within you
when your mind is at rest.

Begin to do this and you will discover the real "secret" to
creating, generating, and sustaining a life of ease,
enjoyment, and empowerment...balance.

Now picture this...

A world with more and more people able to fully and freely
create powerful, productive, provocative ideas and solutions.

A world in which people choose to be healthy, balanced,
  learning, growing, maturing, and evolving.

A world in which people know how - and choose - to access all
of the wisdom, creativity, compassion, ingenuity, inspiration,
and innovation that already resides within them.

It all begins with you.

You in?

I'm in; big time.
