In Evolution - being more of you:

Is your life cause or effect?

Do you run your life - believe your life - is the cause or the effect?

I'm not trying to get existential here, but I want to make a really
important point, create a very powerful, life-changing distinction here...and cause and effect are the place to begin.

I read a very good article the other day, but the premise of it was
askew. The article said, "our private lives are influenced by the public realm more than we think."

Indeed, our lives are influenced, sometimes greatly, by the
public realm.

What we have lost complete sight of however...is that our
private
lives CREATE the public realm. We are the cause
of what occurs in the public realm.

Who we are, how we care for ourselves, how we interact and
treat one another, what we share...creates the public realm.
Period.

Instead, we choose to believe we are at the effect of the
public
realm...society, culture, government, our family, big
brother, etc.

And it is precisely because of this belief that our society
- our
world - exists as it does.

Our action - or our inaction - has directly created the world as it is now. It didn't get to be this way by accident. God hasn't
been messing with us just for fun. Some "other" or devil didn't make the world as it is...we did.

Bummer, dude.

I guess you could view this reality as a bummer...a real bummer.
Or, you could view this reality as the good news...the really
good news.

Seriously.

If your life - your relationships, your family, your community,
your country - isn't showing up in the way you would like it to be...you have two choices. You can believe you are at the "effect" of it; that you are essentially a victim to your circumstances, your environment, and to the world.

Or, you can believe you are the cause of it and therefore you have the power and ability to not be at the effect of it. And you
can also believe, if you so choose, that you have the power to change it.

It's a very clear choice.

You get to choose what you believe...and then change
your life to align with your belief. People do it all the time.
Unfortunately, more frequently that not, people use their belief
to disempower, rather than empower themselves. They use
their belief to follow or to become a victim. All kinds of gurus, movements, leaders, and religions perpetuate this.

So much so that we've come to believe that "them," or
"big brother," or "the government," or our "dysfunctional parent,"
or Barack Obama, or "same sex marriage," or "corporate
America," or "capitalism," or "the mainstream media" are responsible for the quality of our lives.

That is complete "bul#sh*t!" (Moreover...it is an illusion.)

If we didn't create all this, then who did? And if someone
else did create it and we don't like it...why don't we do something to change it?

We like to believe all the rhetoric, romance, drama, marketing,
vampire movies, end of world TV, etc. that tell us the scariest
thing in the world is the "bad guy;" the predator, persecutor,
devil, demon, boogie man, power monger, anti-Christ is the scariest, most dangerous thing in the whole world and we should fear them the most.

Again, that is complete bul#sh*t!

What we need to fear most...is our allowing and our following.

What we need to fear most is the power of the illusion that our denial has created.

What we need to fear most is how we have allowed ourselves
to believe we are victims.

What we need to fear most is our following.

What we need to fear most is that we have actually convinced
ourselves that we are at the effect of the world we see around
us and that someone other than you and I created it.

What we need to fear most is our belief that we cannot
change it.

The world as we see it is our creation. Our lives are our own creation.

Period.

And, that's the really, really good news. Why? Because if
we accept and embrace that we created it...we can change it.
Accepting this reality - rather than denying it - will provide us
all the power we need to change it. Sincerely.

How does this map onto your life? This weekend, take a look
and see.

More next time.
