One of my favorite "teachers" and one of the wisest and most
successful economic advisers in the world is Warren Buffet. He
is also one of the most genuine people around. He doesn't use labels or jargon or charts. He is warm and funny and plain
spoken. Neither his lifestyle - nor his workplace - is fancy or complex. And, as I am sure you are aware, Warren Buffet is
also one of the richest men in the world.
Though his career has spanned many decades of the "information
age," he is not a worshipper of the mind, the media, marketing,
or technology. In fact, one of Berkshire Hathaway's largest investments last year was in railroads. Buffet is a brilliant, successful, grounded man with an open mind, a kind heart, and
a
supremely well-balanced life.
Bottom line?
Warren Buffet is a keen observer of the human experience and
he has used that ability to master money. Warren knows money.
He has also built a fulfilling life. He has modified it over time,
but not complicated it. When his day is done, Buffet leaves his
work at work and he goes home to enjoy his life: friends, bridge, children, Scrabble, grandchildren, his favorite haunts, and some travel. He has experienced great success, but also great loss,
both personal and professional. He takes good care of himself
and he also shares his abundance; he is giving most of his
fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Warren Buffet is a good man, a great financial mind, and a
master of his life.
In an age when people have come to
believe you can become
a master in a weekend, a month, or even a year....Warren Buffet
is an authentic master. (
If being a master was easy, everyone
would be one..)
"Success" in our society today can look very different. It can look like Warren Buffet, Bill & Melinda Gates, Steve Jobs, Arianna Huffington, and Sean Penn.
Or, it can look like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, a
bunch of former Wall Street execs, and Charlie Sheen.
All of these people are "successful" by our culture's standards.
Some of these people are successful
and also conscious, well
balanced, responsible, accountable, and emotionally mature.
I am willing to bet that those people are, by and large,
healthy, happy, and fulfilled.
The reality is that we now live in a rapidly changing, increasingly
challenging world. And, it does not appear that the world - nor
our challenges - is going to simplify or abate anytime soon. We
have alot of challenges to tackle and a lot of changes to make if
we want to improve our lives and our world.
Bottom line?
We make life so complicated. Indeed, life may not often be easy, but it is simple...if we allow it to be.
1.
You have the power to choose who you are being and who you
want to become.
2. As such,
you have all the power you need to change your
life if you want to; just because you want to.
3. By
your choices, each day, you determine if
you are going to
be a Warren Buffet...or Charlie Sheen.
The time to choose to become
all of who you are...
is now. The world is calling you to do so.
If you need any assistance with that, let me know.
