As inspiring, empowering, and uplifting as the push toward freedom in Egypt (Yemen, Bahrain, Libya, Tunisia, Iran, Iraq & Algeria) is...the realities of revolution - like the realities of evolution in our own lives -
will take time, energy, and effort to consolidate and integrate into
lasting freedom and change.
Like anyone who has started a new job, moved to a new home, or
begun a new relationship - while the newly found freedom
is indeed, empowering, exciting, and inspiring - many habits,
patterns, perceptions, behaviors, and beliefs must be modified in
order to navigate a new course.
Why?
It's about energy.
Who we are, whom we engage with, and how we actually experience
our lives is "energetically" etched into every day. The rhythms and patterns of our movements - the places we go and the people we see along the way - create a kind of "groove" within us and around us.
This way of being - this "groove" - forms the basis of our inner and
outer comfort, safety, security, and stability. We become familiar and comfortable with this "groove."
When we change that deeply etched groove, it takes time, energy, and awareness to create a new groove; and also to become comfortable
and adept operating within new life patterns.
Along the way there are many challenges. We can choose to meet
those challenges with humor, humility, grace, and awareness. Or, we
can choose to meet those challenges with suffering, struggle, sacrifice, and unconsciousness.
We can choose to meet those challenges fully: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Or, we can choose to meet those challenges half-heartedly and use repression, dysfunction, attachment, and
addiction to resist reality and change.
Believe it or not, energetically, whole nations operate a lot like
individual people; one is a macrocosm and one is a microcosm of
energy. For example, the people of Egypt have been in a society of repression, corruption, and control for 30 years; kind of like being in a dysfunctional relationship for a long time. So, creating healthy, mature, responsible, accountable freedom...will take time, energy, and effort.
For the Egyptian people, who are still under the power and control of
their military, it is more like they have left home for college, rather
than they have actually begun a wholly independent life. Figuratively speaking, they have yet to earn their degree, get a job, find a place
to live, and become truly self-sufficient.
In other words, they have acquired some freedom, but have not yet
grown into all they need to create, cultivate, and facilitate holistic democracy and freedom. (For example, Egypt rates only 125th out of
134 countries in gender equality.)
Clearing the way to holistic freedom - and the creation of the systems
that fully support democracy - is a journey that will take time. Real change - lasting, fulfilling, well-balanced change - takes time, effort, awareness, courage, patience, and persistence.
This is true of our individual lives as well. Real change takes time. Freedom is worth it; becoming more of you, enjoying your life more
fully, and building lasting fulfillment...is worth it.
So, while revolution is a positive, powerful, and productive step in the
life of a nation - or of an individual person - the surest and most
enjoyable way to revolutionize your life...is to evolve...every day.
Today...pursue your freedom; become more of who you are; create authentic evolution in your life.
