Greetings!
What are you doing this Sunday? At New Way Church, we're celebrating Easter and I would love to see you there!
I know a lot of you who subscribe to this newsletter don't go to church every Sunday. And I know that some of you have been subscribing but haven't had a chance to try out New Way Church. And I know some of you have been participating for a little while, and have thought of someone who you might some day invite to try out this community as well.
Well, if you haven't been in awhile, or haven't been at all yet, or are still waiting for the right time to invite someone to come with you, then why not make this Easter a special day? Come worship with us. Bring a friend or two.
Why? Because we are about to start talking about a new way of doing life and dealing with struggles that I know has the power to transform lives. It's Biblical, it's spiritual, it's rational, and it's powerful. And it's my own best understanding of how to realize the beautiful potential that God sees whenever he looks at you. For more on this, check out "Our Current Series" at the bottom of this email.

From the Pastor: "Sail Away" This morning, my family had a brief time of worship together. We're trying out homeschooling our four kids this year, and we've been trying to kick off each weekday with worship. It's a simple thing: we light a candle, my daughter opens the Word and reads a verse she finds there, I read a longer selection from the Word (we're going through the Gospel of Mark right now), and then we have a short discussion. We finish by going around and giving everyone a chance to share a final thought, then say the Lord's Prayer together. It's very much a "small group" experience. Anyway, this morning, we read a very short story about Jesus, and I found it particularly intriguing: The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side. (Mark 8:11-13) I love that! First of all, Jesus was in the middle of a tour of the land in which he was going around casting out demons, curing deafness, and had only one paragraph previously fed thousands of people with just a handful of food, and not for the first time! But the Pharisees wanted a "sign". And the Lord's reaction? Wow. We all smiled at that, and laughed a little in sympathy. What a powerfully human reaction: he "sighed deeply in his spirit". Of course he did! But it was his next move that really grabbed my interest the most...

Something to Think About So who is Jesus, anyway? Lots of people throughout history have expressed their opinions on this topic, and you probably have heard at least one or two popularly taught "doctrines" on the subject. But what if you had never heard of Jesus? Imagine you are totally new to the whole idea of Christianity, put aside all preconceived notions, and read through the following statements taken from prophecies in the Bible, and come to your own conclusion: Behold, a virgin will conceive and bear a Son, who will be called God with us. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23) A Child is born to us; a Son is given to us. Authority will rest on his shoulder, and his name will be called Wonderful, God, Hero, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) It will be said in that day, "Behold, this is our God. We have waited for him to free us. This is Jehovah whom we have waited for. Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation." (Isaiah 25:9) The voice of one crying in the desert, "Prepare a way for Jehovah; make a level pathway in the solitude for our God. And all flesh will see it together." (Isaiah 40:3, 5) Behold, the Lord Jehovih is coming with strength, and his arm will rule for him. Behold, his reward is with him; like a shepherd he will feed his flock. (Isaiah 40:10-11) Jehovah said, "Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Zion. Behold, I am coming to live in your midst." Then many peoples will cling to Jehovah in that day. (Zecharaiah 2:10-11) I, Jehovah, have called you in justice; I will give you as a covenant to the people. I am Jehovah. This is my name. I will not give my glory to another. (Isaiah 42:6, 8) Behold, the days are coming when I will raise up for David a righteous offshoot who will reign as king and execute judgement and justice on the earth. And this is his name: Jehovah our Justice. (Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15-16) So what do you think? Click here to email me your own thoughts on this. And this isn't a test! I honestly want to hear the different viewpoints of as many people as possible.

Our Current Series:
POTENTIAL
Starting this Easter Sunday, April 24th, at 10 a.m....
Spring is the time of year when the earth comes alive with new growth and new life. At New Way Church, we're celebrating new life this Easter-not just spring's green-but the purposeful life of spirituality that comes from following Jesus, who came alive that first Easter.
Jesus didn't let a nearly two-ton stone keep him down; that Easter Sunday he moved the stone and rose from the grave. Are you carrying a weight that feels like
two tons: pain, hardship, un-met expectations, or guilt? If you're exhausted from carrying life's stones, join us at New Way Church and learn how love can set you free to live up to your potential. Discover the surprising secrets this story of death and resurrection reveal about your own life.
So this Easter, come participate in worship with us as we kick off a new, hope-filled series: Potential! This series begins at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 24th, and continues for a total of four weeks. Here are some ideas we will explore together:
- No matter who you are or what you've done, you have reason to hope.
- Why it's important to get real about your life, and why that's not a totally scary thing.
- A spiritual practice that is easy to learn but that can help you through the most challenging of struggles.
- What it means to "take up your cross", and how it can lead to a whole new way of looking at life.
Jesus allowed himself to be arrested, tried, tortured and executed, and then rose from the dead. Part of what he was doing was showing us a path that will lead each person to the amazing potential he sees in each of us. So take up your cross and follow the Lord by walking a new path that includes self-examination, prayer, and spiritual struggle, so that you can fulfill your beautiful potential.
And it all begins Sunday morning. Come as you are, and bring a friend!
We will be worshipping in the dance studio that has become our Sunday morning home over the past few months:
Austin Uptown Dance
8868 Research Blvd, #706
Austin, TX 78758

Worship will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Inspirations

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you..."
-Jeremiah 1:5
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back-it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you." And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
-Mark 16:1-8
