Educational Opportunities:

ECG's Education and Development is excited to announce the new Community Development course offerings. These courses are designed to educate and bridge the gap between elected officials, economic development professionals and community stakeholders.  Course topics include how to evaluate and develop industrial property and understanding the site selection process.

To date, the Cities of Douglas and Covington have taken advantage of this new opportunity.    Roger Harrison, Vice President of Economic Development for Covington-Newton County had this to say about the course the Chamber hosted "Jay's workshop has had an immediate and lasting impact on aligning our economic development stakeholders around what the short and long-term necessities are for running a successful economic development office. We have heard only positive feedback on the knowledge and expertise Jay brought to the community for the event. ECG's partnership with Covington/Newton County is strong, and we appreciate all they do to assist us in our progress."

Retail Development: ICSC

ECG would like to thank the following communities for partnering with us during the ICSC show: Ted Clem, Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission; Barbara Coffee , City of College Park; Alex Stall, Dalton-Whitfield JDA; JoAnne Lewis, Douglas-Coffee County/EDA; and Adam Causey, City of Griffin.  Mark your calendars now for next year's show May 21 - 23, 2012.  If you are interested in partnering with ECG at this event, please contact Michelle Cooper at mcooper@locationgeorgia.com

ECG's Economic & Community Development services are hard at work for you and your community.  Our E&CD team is focused on locating businesses that will create new jobs in Georgia, and we want those jobs to come to your city.   While we are marketing Georgia and drawing attention to your assets, we want to make sure you are "in the know."   This eNewsletter should give you a better perspective on the ways we serve you and keep you informed about the array of services we offer.  That's why you'll see periodic emails from us notifying you that we've submitted your industrial and commercial properties to a prospective business.  And while we are out finding new customers, we also want to help prepare your community for further economic growth.  Your economic success is our first priority, and we hope you'll take full advantage of the services E&CD can provide.

2 Georgia Bus Tours a Success

In November of 2010 and March of 2011, Electric Cities of Georgia's Economic & Community Development team hosted a

bus tour of 10 ECG cities in west central Georgia and 15 cities across South Georgia. The communities had the opportunity to show State Project Managers why these cities are desirable locations for new business. This exposure for Economic Development opportunities heightens the potential economic business growth for these communities.

Priorities Insure Community Exposure

Leadership is the real difference between one community's success and another's failure in economic development. Quality leadership in a community navigates a path to economic success. But what are some of the tactical considerations that help position a community to be successful? These considerations generally involve three categories of community preparation: product, marketing and organization.

Community Planning for Retail Growth

Retail is a critical component of every community's economic development strategy. Retail businesses support the local economy through job creation, expanding sales tax revenue, and improving the quality of life. To be a successful community, it is key to plan for retail growth and to provide opportunities for the right retail.
