Prophecies from Lourdes
I am sure you are all reading the book "Harbinger" by Jonathan Cahn, and even though it is a novel, for me it has proved to be an extraordinary read. While going through it I was reminded of a document I received some years ago concerning prophecies of Our Lady to St. Bernadette of Lourdes which she was told to pass on to Pope Leo XIII (which is another story). There were five prophecies in all.
 |
St. Bernadette
|
The first one dealing with the fact that Lourdes would become a famous center of healing after the death of St. Bernadette. This, of course, is what has happened. The second concerned the invention of electricity. The third foretold the second World War and the devastation of Europe. The fourth predicted man would walk on the moon, before the Wright brothers were even born. As you know, all of these prophecies have been fulfilled and have come to pass, some even in our own time.
Now let me quote to you the words of the fifth and final prophecy:
"Your Holiness, the Virgin has told me that when the 20th century passes away, with it will pass away the Age of Science. A new Age of Faith will dawn around the world. Proof will come at last that it was Our Lord Who created the world and man, and this will be the beginning of the end for the scientists, in whom the people will cease to believe. Millions will return to Christ, and as the numbers of believers swell, the power of the Church will grow as never before. Also causing many to turn their backs on science will be the arrogance of physicians who use their knowledge to create an abomination. These doctors will find the means to combine the essence of a man and the essence of a beast.
The people will know in their hearts that this is wrong, but they will be powerless to stop the spawning of such monsters. In the end they will hunt scientists down as ravening wolves are hunted. On the eve of the year 2000, a final clash between the followers of Mohammed and the Christian nations of the world will take place. A furious battle will be waged in which 5,650,451 soldiers are killed and a bomb of great power will fall on a city in Persia. But in the fullness of time the sign of the cross will prevail and all of Islam will be forced to convert to Christianity. There will follow a century of peace and joy as all the nations of the earth lay down their swords and shields. Great prosperity will follow as the Lord showers His blessings down upon the faithful. No family on earth will know poverty or hunger. One person in ten will be granted by God the power to heal and they will cast out all sicknesses from those who seek their aid. Many will rejoice at these miracles. The 21st Century will come to be known as the Second Golden Age of Mankind."
The prophecy declares that "a new Age of Faith will dawn around the world." Perhaps it is no coincidence that we are being reminded of these words of the Blessed Mother of God in a year set aside by the present Holy Father as a "Year of Faith." Pope John Paul II spoke frequently about the new springtime that was coming for the Church and for the world. We in Magnificat know that the problems of the present time are not amenable to human solutions, but can only be resolved with the sovereign power of our merciful Savior. Our Lady's words to St. Bernadette are words of great hope, of an outpouring of Divine Grace that will transform the Church and all the world. Let us pray that God's perfect will and plan for His Church and for our little planet will come to pass in every detail, so that the 21st century will indeed become the "Second Golden Age of Mankind."
P.S. Regarding the upcoming Presidential election, I find the actions of the present administration regarding the HHS mandate, infringing on the religious rights and freedoms of Catholics and contrary to our Church teachings, very disturbing indeed. I pray that the American people will choose wisely.

PRAISE REPORT
"My experience the first time I attended the Magnificat Conference was totally mind blowing! There was no way to be prepared to see and hear what I saw and heard. All the women in leadership who attended even from countries across the globe, all the priests serving as Spiritual Advisors and those representing the hierarchy of our Catholic Church who support this world-wide woman-to-woman ministry came together under one roof to proclaim in solidarity the glory and goodness of God. How electrifying!
The power of the Holy Spirit was undeniable and brought me a new and deeper understanding of the participation of our Blessed Mother in salvation history. She is the one who said "yes" to the Lord in order to bring us the Redeemer, the Son of the Most High. The joy, the laughter, the singing, the dancing, the praying and praising, all together created an environment much like what heaven must be. The one difference is that in heaven we will have Jesus in the flesh rather than under the appearance of bread and wine.
Throughout the conference there were many witnesses of the presence and power of God in the form of talks given by ordinary women, homilies during Mass by holy priests and during informative sessions that encouraged and enlightened those of us serving in ministry in our own diocese. Overall, it is a real profound blessing to attend such a meeting where the greater church is visible!"

LITURGY OF THE HOURS
Office of Readings
Second Reading
From a letter written to all the faithful by
St. Francis of Assisi
We must be simple, humble and pure
It was through his archangel, Saint Gabriel, that the Father above made known to the holy and glorious Virgin Mary that the worthy, holy and glorious Word of the Father would come from heaven and take from her womb the real flesh of our human frailty. Though he was wealthy beyond reckoning, he still willingly chose to be poor with the blessed mother. And shortly before his passion he celebrated the Passover with his disciples. Then he prayed to his Father saying: Father, if it be possible, let this cup be taken from me.
Nevertheless, he reposed his will in the will of his Father. The Father willed that his blessed and glorious Son, whom he gave to us and who was born for us, should through his own blood offer himself as a sacrificial victim on the altar of the cross. This was to be done not for himself through whom all things were made, but for our sins. It was intended to leave us an example of how to follow in his footsteps. And he desires all of us to be saved through him, and to receive him with pure heart and chaste body.
O how happy and blessed are those who love the Lord and do as the Lord himself said in the gospel: You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart and your whole soul, and your neighbor as yourself. Therefore, let us love God and adore him with pure heart and mind. This is his particular desire when he says: True worshipers adore the Father in spirit and truth. For all who adore him must do so in the spirit of truth. Let us also direct to him our praises and prayers saying: Our Father, who art in heaven, since we must always pray and never grow slack.
Furthermore, let us produce worthy fruits of penance. Let us also love our neighbors as ourselves. Let us have charity and humility. Let us give alms because these cleanse our souls from the stain of sin. Men lost all the material things they leave behind them in this world, but they carry with them the reward of their charity and the alms they give. For these they will receive from the Lord the reward and recompense they deserve. We must not be wise and prudent according to the flesh. Rather we must be simple, humble and pure. We should never desire to be over others. Instead, we ought to be servants who are submissive to every human being for God's sake. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on all who live in this way and persevere in it to the end. He will permanently dwell in them. They will be the Father's children who do his work. They are the spouses, brothers and mothers of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In each Newsletter, the CST includes a selection from the Liturgy of the Hours which is the public prayer of the Church. It is our hope that you have enjoyed the readings and they enhance your own personal prayer. If you would like more information, visit www.divineoffice.org

REPORT FROM ST. LOUIS CHAPTER The Visitation Lives!
by Duru L. Sakhrani, M.D.
The journey of chapter formation and hosting the Magnificat meals has taken us through many experiences, blessings, challenges and lessons learned. After four years of Magnificat breakfasts hosted four times a year and with numerous service team meetings in between, it became crystal clear that 2012 would be a year of personal and chapter growth for Our Lady of America Magnificat Chapter in St. Louis, MO. We lost 2 of 6 Service Team members at the turn of the year. As new Magnificat sisters filled the vacant positions, they shared their experiences as hostesses and posed the question: "How can we prepare our hostesses so that they recognize their role at the tables and become the instruments of the Visitation?"
 | Formation Members |
Thus began our reflection of the direction the Holy Spirit was taking us. As we prayerfully considered options, the theme of personal growth for the growth of the chapter emerged. We all got excited for the possibility of a training workshop for hostesses. This would allow the service team to host the ladies who ordinarily serve at the tables. This would also help in hostess formation and fellowship.
 | Bishop Robert Hermann, Spiritual Advisor |
It was a glorious morning when we gathered on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Cardinal Rigali Center. After a blessing and breakfast, Bishop Robert Hermann, our Spiritual Advisor, talked about the Visitation. Bishop Hermann reflected on Mary and Elizabeth's connection in the fulfillment of salvation. He went on to say: "Your mission is truly to bring the Good News of salvation to others, especially women. With Mary, you want to share with others the joy of salvation. You want to serve them with the Good News that energizes you and that fills you with joy. You know how much you yourself have been blessed by the encouragement and kindnesses of others, especially other women who understood the particular challenge you were facing when they entered, either your home or your life, with words of encouragement."
Bishop Hermann continued: "Yes, Mary's 'yes' is her great gift to God, and it is also your greatest gift to God. Your 'yes' to God allows His presence to infiltrate your entire life. Your 'yes' to God allows Him to infiltrate your family, your parish and your community, with His presence. Like Elizabeth, others will rejoice in the coming of the Savior into their hearts through your lived witness. Often you may not be aware of this in the time of stress and difficulty, but others watch how you handle difficult issues with faith and confidence. They see and they believe, even though they don't tell you."
 | Jane Guenther |
After these powerfully charged words, Jane Guenther presented a workshop on building facilitation skills that transitioned to faith based facilitation. Breaking into small groups, the ladies listened intently and shared their experiences. As the objectives of the workshop were presented, the goal was to be consistent with the core values of Magnificat. The driving force of the workshop was to empower the hostesses to become the facilitators of "the Visitation." As women come to the meal tables, the facilitator not only welcomes and greets the women, but allows meaningful discussion, loving fellowship and active spiritual interactions.
As the workshop progressed, the participants were open to stepping up their role from "Facilitation" to "Faith based facilitation." Since a key outcome of faith based facilitation is improved spiritual and relational health, the whole group committed to make this a goal to be set for every breakfast.
After the workshop, the ladies were treated to lunch served by the Service Team. Many of the participants acknowledged that this was the first time that they actually sat in fellowship with one another. Many of them did not know each other. But, as we stood in a circle of prayer before lunch, there were new bonds formed. Strangers no more, they sat and reminisced how they came to their first breakfasts and told the stories of anxiety in fulfilling the role given to them. They spoke in confidence of how their journey as Magnificat hostesses through these years was based in faith. They shared stories of the fellowship they witnessed and the power of women ministering to each other just as Mary and Elizabeth did in their time. They were amazed at being entrusted with carrying on the modern day Visitation.
As we look to the future, we believe that the role of the Magnificat hostesses will become even more important. Understanding the Ministry and relaying the message to women at their tables, allowing them to actively participate in kindness, faithfulness and gentleness will be a testament to the belief that truly, even today, the Visitation lives!!!! MAGNIFICAT 12th INTERNATIONAL LEADERS' CONFERENCE March 14-17, 2013
"They Have No Wine"
"Mary, our Model of Faith"
 |
Theme: The Wedding Feast at Cana
|
Many of you who have previously attended our conferences have been richly blessed, and we hope you will want to join us once again for what is really a Magnificat family reunion. During this conference we will have many opportunities to be Christ's presence to each other, greeting our sisters with holy hugs! When one thinks of the miracle Jesus worked at Cana, turning the water into wine at the request of the Blessed Mother, the word abundance comes to mind. We come with expectant faith like Mary's, anticipating an abundance of grace, richness of fellowship, and timely leadership training. Participants will be blessed by the inspirational talks, quiet time for reflection in the Adoration Chapel, a profusion of praise and worship, and incredible liturgies honoring our Holy God.
The CST is delighted with the slate of speakers who have said "YES." We will once again have our own Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, Magnificat Spiritual Advisor, Fr. Kevin Scallon, C.M., and Sr. Briege Mc Kenna, O.S.C. Bishop Hermann of St. Louis, MO, will be joining us along with Fr. Francis Martin. We are excited our dear sisters, Johnnette Benkovic and Patti Mansfield, will be joining us. Susan Potvin from Living Praise Music Ministry and Dr. Carol Razza will be leading us in heavenly Praise and Worship. Regional Rep Coordinator Jackie France will be leading a General Session focused on developing Service Team relationships and collective decision-making. We are pleased to announce that Marilyn Quirk, Coordinator of the CST, will give her testimony at our special Saturday night Magnificat Meal.
It will be reminiscent of the Wedding Feast at Cana with music, dancing, food and wine! Mary was a joy-filled Charismatic woman with expectant faith, and like Mary, we hope you will be there to take the place that has been set for you at this Feast!
From Psalm 63
"I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands, calling on your name. My soul shall savor the rich banquet of praise, with joyous lips my mouth shall honor you!"

THE POWER OF THE ROSARY
AN ELECTION EVE REFLECTION
Father Harold F. Cohen, S.J.*
As we come down to the wire in our presidential race, I would like to call to mind the power of prayer, especially the power of the Rosary in achieving the purposes of God.
 | Father Harold Cohen, S.J. |
In this critical time in our country, we need the man who is most conformed to the mind and heart of God. I want to encourage all of you to redouble your prayers and sacrifices that our Father, in Jesus' name, send His Spirit upon the American people to guide us in our choice.
In particular I want to recite a "litany of Rosary victories" - victories won against overwhelming odds through the power of the Rosary and invocation of Mary:
Lepanto 1571 - The Christian fleet under Don Juan of Austria defeated the far superior Turkish fleet after a Rosary Crusade organized by Pope Pius V.
Vienna 1683 - Christian forces, of some 80,000, under the "Northern Lion", John Sobieski, King of Poland, defeated the Turkish forces of 250,000. Sobieski publicly placed all his trust in Our Lady and prayed the Rosary to invoke her protection. The words, "Mary help us" were on everybody's lips.
Sri Lanka (Ceylon) 1940 - When the Japanese fleet was heading toward their island nation, the bishop promised to build a cathedral in honor of Mary is she would protect them. Unexpectedly, the Japanese fleet turned around and did not attack Sri Lanka.
Austria 1950's - After the people pleaded for Mary's intervention and prayed the Rosary, occupying Russian troops pulled out in a totally unprecedented move.
Brazil 1960's - On the eve of a sure Communist victory in elections, Brazilian women processed in the streets praying the Rosary and the Communist Party suffered a surprising defeat.
Philippines 1980's - President Marcos' government was peacefully overthrown as people opposed tanks with rosary beads and flowers. Our Lady is said to have appeared in the sky to Marcos' soldiers telling them not to harm her people. A statue now commemorates this.
New Orleans, October 1990 - A group prayed 15 decades of the Rosary outside of the Delta Women's Clinic. This prayer had been preceded by a monthly procession there by participants in the Rosary Novena for Life. The Clinic was down within a week...on Magificat's day of the Rosary Congress.
USA 1992 - We pray that through countless prayer and rosaries of God's People, the man most in accord with the mind and heart of God's will be elected President of these United States.
"If my people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2Chron. 7:14)
"O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!"
* Father Harold Cohen, S.J., was the first National Spiritual Advisor of Magnificat, a gifted speaker involved in TV and radio, and founder of Closer Walk Ministries. Ordained as a priest in 1958, Father Cohen held an S.T.L. in Theology and a M.S. in Educational Psychology. He taught and counseled at the secondary and university levels. He died on January 16, 2001.

OPEN LETTER TO MAGNIFICAT SISTERS by Patti Mansfield
Dear Sisters of Magnificat, |
Patti Mansfield
|
A friend recently gave me a beautiful book by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, entitled 33 Days to Morning Glory. It prepares us to make an act of consecration to Jesus through Mary by exploring this grace in the life and teachings of four great Marian "saints". Each week is devoted to one of them: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Bl. Teresa of Calcutta and Bl. John Paul II. As many of you know, my baptism in the Spirit was also an experience of deep union with Our Lady as her Magnificat was born in me the night the Holy Spirit overshadowed me! So, I have been consecrated to Our Lady since 1967 and I deepened that consecration in 1990 when Al and I did the 33 days of preparation according to St. Louis de Montfort. I repeat my Totus Tuus every day. I belong to Mary. But this book by Fr. Gaitley has brought me to a new appreciation of the urgency of consecration to Mary in the spiritual battle that is raging in our country and in our world today. This quote from the original charter of the Militia Immaculata of St. Maximilian Kolbe struck me with special force. "Modern times are dominated by Satan and will be more so in the future. The conflict with hell cannot be engaged by men, even the most clever. The lmmaculata alone has from God the promise of victory over Satan. However, assumed into heaven, the Mother of God now requires our cooperation. She seeks souls who will consecrate themselves entirely to her, who will become in her hands effective instruments for the defeat of Satan and the spreading of God's kingdom upon earth." St. Maximilian Kolbe, OFM Conv. I know that many of us feel that sense of urgency for God's intervention in the life of our nation. What can we do? We can pray and we can consecrate ourselves more deeply to Our Lady so that each of us can take our place in the battle against Satan. The Immaculata alone has from God the promise of victory over Satan. The Immaculata alone! Fr. Cohen taught me this Act of Consecration to Mary when I first moved to New Orleans and I pray it every day. May he join his prayer to ours as we intercede for our nation. Act of Consecration to Mary
"O my Queen, O my Mother, I give myself entirely to you. And in order to prove myself devoted to you, I consecrate to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart this day my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my whole person without reserve. Since therefore I am yours, O good Mother, preserve me and protect me as your property and possession." St. Aloysius, S.J. ______________________________ |
NO MATTER WHAT THE COST, CHOOSE LIFE! by Maria Vadia
"I call heaven and earth to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; choose life then, that you and your descendants may live...." Deut. 30:19
 | Maria Vadia |
Dear Sisters in the Lord,
This could be the greatest time for the church in America if we just wake up! As Catholic Christians, we are salt and light; we are supposed to impact the society that we live in. In America, the lines are being clearly drawn, life and death, blessing and curse. Which will you choose on Election Day?
As daughters of the Most High God, we represent the Lord Jesus in our nation! As citizens of the kingdom of God and ambassadors for Christ, it is our responsibility to cast our vote on the side of life. We can't afford to be double-minded, dilly dallying or complacent when it comes to the upcoming presidential elections in November. It's a matter of life and death!
You might ask, "What do the elections have to do with the things of the Spirit? The answer is: Elections have EVERYTHING to do with the Holy Spirit! The Lord loves America and it is through us, His people, that God's kingdom is extended in our nation as it is in heaven. And that includes voting for the one that stands for life and kingdom values! We are at a tipping point! "All the nations You have made shall come and bow down before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name." Psalm 86:9
It's God's plan that our nation bows down to Him once again! We are living for such a time as this! Let's not waste our time compromising and being politically correct, but standing for truth, no matter what the cost. Let's stand and vote on the side of life, so that the coming generations may know a country that loves God, a country that is blessed by Him! "Happy the people whose God is the Lord!" Psalm 144:15b.

PRAYER AND THE ELECTION
by Lois Ann Mader
During the month of September we have witnessed both political parties' conventions; we recognize two very different world views were presented and the challenge to make a
 | Lois Ann Mader |
choice is monumental. We are at a turning point in our country's and world's history. St. Augustine reminds us that "we must pray as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on us."
As sisters in Magnificat, our work must begin with prayer. Why pray? Our Lord Jesus said, "Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Matt 7:6, 7
When I attended my first Magnificat International Conference in 2003, I heard about the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. This battle served as a turning point in history; it signaled the end of Turkish (Muslim) supremacy in the Mediterranean. This victory was credited to the recitation of the Rosary. In commemoration of this Battle, the Catholic Church celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Victory, later renamed the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7th. It is no coincidence that in 1977 on October 7th, our Magnificat ministry to Catholic women began.
In 2005 when Hurricane Katherine devastated the Gulf Coast; our own Magnificat International Prayer Ministry (MIPM) was founded by Olga Myers, then a CST Southeastern Regional Representative. Its purpose was to intercede for their many needs. Susan Shaw of the Atlanta Magnificat currently chairs this prayer ministry with 26 chapters participating.
In these our days, the U.S. Conference of Bishops has composed a prayer calling us to recognize that we are at a turning point in the history of our nation - to be vigilant for the right of religious liberty to be sustained. The Bishops are asking us to pray: Mary Immaculate, Patroness of Our Country, pray for us. We in Magnificat have issued a prayer card for distribution with the U.S. Bishops' prayer not only for our membership but for all citizens to pray.
As Magnificat sisters, let us use the gift of praise in intercession for our beloved country. We should be spiritually daring and boldly intercede for the outcome of our nation's election in November for we are at a turning point in our history.
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Heb 4:16
