Give Your Afterschool Children and Youth a Voice! Professional Development Workshops in August, September, and October 2011
Afterschool staff, does any of this sound familiar?
·It's time for kids in your program to choose the week's theme, but when you ask them what they want to do, you're met with blank stares.
·The kids in your program are excited to plan their own activity, but it seems like they've overlooked several important steps. You don't know whether to let the kids continue on their own or provide guidance.
·You know how important it is to get to know the kids in your program so that the activities reflect their interests and needs, but between homework help, clubs, and dinner, it's hard to find time.
If you've found yourself in situations like these and want to give children and youth a more meaningful voice in your program, come learn more about youth-driven programming in a series of three workshops at The University of Pittsburgh Office of Child Development.
This coming August, September, and October, The Office of Child Development will offer three professional development workshops to help you think about how children and youth in your program have a voice in determining what they do, why they do it, and how they do it. In each of these hands-on workshops, experts in youth development will help you build concrete skills to apply to your own work in afterschool. Check out our flyer to learn more about each event.
Workshops will be limited to 30 participants, so register today for one, two, or all three workshops! Please contact Milena Nigam at mkn11@pitt.edu with any questions.
In youth-driven programs, youth have a voice, that voice is heard, and it matters!
