APOST Developing Best Practice Series "Career Exposure and Development"
Join your fellow OST providers as we kick-off the "Developing Best Practices Series" with the topic of Career Exposure and Development.

APOST Symposium Series "The Power of Professional Development for Youth Workers in Afterschool"

APOST (Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time) In partnership with the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh, presents the evidence-based Out-of-School afterschool Initiatives of Dr. Gil Noam who founded the Program in Education After-School & Resiliency at Harvard. (www.pearweb.org). Noam and his team have developed training and technical assistance for high quality afterschool programs across the country. We will also be joined by the nation's leaders of youth worker professional development, including:
· Karen Vander Ven, University of Pittsburgh (author and afterschool advocate) · Paul Young, President, National Afterschool Association · Frank Eckles, President, National Certification Board · Jean Carpenter--Williams, President, Association of Child and Youth Care Practice · Dale Curry, Kent State University (expert on training transfer in youth work)

Optional Afternoon Panels & Celebration Starting at 1pm there will also be two panels on the future of youth work and professional development in honor of Karen Vander Ven. Karen has been at Pitt for more than 50 years and has written over 400 articles in the field of youth work. More than 100 leading experts in youth work professional development from across the country and around the world will attend. All from APOST are welcome to join us.

Basic Child & Youth Care course at the Summer Institute This summer, with the generous support of the United Way, the University of Pittsburgh, along with the Sarah Heinz House Center of Excellence, is hosting the Basic Child & Youth Care course at the Summer Institute. The course starts May 26 and ends June 10th with a few days off in between. All days run 9 to 4, and most sessions will be held at Pitt. Scholarships for afterschool workers are available. Questions can be directed to Jennifer Engel at engel@sarahheinzhouse.com. If interested, you can also take this training for college credit.

Attend the 10th Annual Afterschool for All Challenge You are encouraged to attend the 10th Annual Afterschool for All Challenge where you will join hundreds of afterschool advocates from across the United States. The Challenge will be held May 16-17, 2011 in Washington, D.C. and the theme of this year's conference is Expanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) After School.
