Principal Post
I hope that you will be able to join me this Thursday night at 7pm, when Dr. Traci Pierce will be speaking at our General PTSA meeting. Dr. Pierce is the current Deputy Superintendent of the LWSD, and is the candidate selected by the Board to succeed Dr. Kimball as the new Superintendent when he steps down in July. I am thrilled that she accepted my invitation to come out to Dickinson, and I will be honored to introduce her to our amazing community.
During my Monday announcements I will be reminding all students and staff about our school's personal electronics policy: "off and away, until the end of the day!". This applies to cell phones, cameras, iPods, gaming devices, etc. We consider the day beginning when a student loads onto a bus or leaves their car, and ending when they unload the bus or are in a car. This policy is intended to reduce distractions at school, as well as protect students and their belongings. Please discuss this policy with your student, and take steps to plan accordingly.

PTSA General Meeting - This Thursday

Thursday, February 9th, 7pm

Come meet Dr. Traci Pierce at the PTSA General meeting this Thursday at 7pm in the school library!  Hope to see you there!

Math Club News
I am very proud of the 5th and 6th Grade Math Club boys (Isaac Perrin, Chad Keddie, Justin Lewis, and Michael Cannistra) who participated as a team in the 6th Grade Math Is Cool Competition on Friday evening, February 3rd at Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines. The four boys won 5th place in their Division IB which had thirteen schools participating this time! They did very well, as the team scores for the top scoring schools were close. I wish to compliment and congratulate the boys for their outstanding work, great effort, and terrific teamwork! Bravo Boys!
Plus, Michael Cannistra won as the highest scoring student, from our school, on the Individual Test. He took home a special "Math Is Cool" water bottle as his prize. Fantastic Michael!
Feel free to congratulate Isaac, Chad, Justin, and Michael for their success and representing our school well. Please see the photo of the boys, with their ribbons, after the Awards Ceremony!
Sincerely,
Carol Woodard

Library News

Representing our school in the Global Reading Challenge is the Eagle Readers team, all from Mr. Leviten's class. Their battle at Redmond Library will be Thursday, February 23rd at 4:30pm if you want to root them on!

Battle of the Books begins Tuesday, February 7th, 11:20-12:30pm. Our five teams will be battling to represent our school in the district battles. They will be battling Tuesday and Wednesday during lunch and lunch recess so there will be no lunch recess in the library on those days. Those students will all have lunch on those days at 12:30 with Explorer and 3rd Grade students. Parents are welcome to come cheer on the teams! We are also looking for a few parents to help with the battles; please contact the library if you are interested. Thank you!
