Explorer Enrollment Information Night

Thursday, January 12th, 6:30pm

Lake Washington School District parents are invited to Explorer Community School's Enrollment Information Night - Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 6:30pm at the Emily Dickinson school commons - 7040 208th Ave. NE Redmond, WA.
Explorer is a Lake Washington School District choice elementary school located on the Emily Dickinson campus. One of three choice elementary school programs in the Lake Washington School District, Explorer offers a small elementary school environment staffed by three certified teachers in multi-aged classrooms grades one through five. Explorer's curriculum promotes academic excellence, strong self esteem, a love of learning and a belief in the importance of community. Parent volunteers are vital to the school's success in meeting these goals and a high level of parental involvement is required.
Attendance at this evening information night is a requirement for all families who wish to enroll a child for the 2012/2013 school year. Additionally, attendance is required to maintain a child's spot on the waitlist. Failure to attend will result in your child's name being removed from the waitlist. We are unable to offer childcare; therefore this is an adult only evening. Details regarding Explorer enrollment can be found at http://www.lwsd.org/school/explorer/About-Us/Pages/Explorer-Enrollment.aspx or call (425) 936-2533.

Save those Books (and Games and Movies...)
Has the spring cleaning bug got you early? Clearing out space for those incoming Christmas gifts? Don't give them away yet! The 2nd Annual Used Book Fair is scheduled for March 12-15, 2012. We need your books (children's and "grown-ups"), games and movies (G, PG only please). Please be sure to put them aside in a box or two, and clearly mark them 'For the Used Book Fair.' We'll get back to you in February to let you know where and when to bring them in. Sorry, we don't have the space to store them in the interim. And thanks for thinking of us!  Any questions? Contact Susan Seabrooks at sseabrooks@dickinsonptsa.org.

LWSF Says, "Thank you for your support!"

During this time of Thanksgiving, the Foundation wants to thank all who have donated during the last year. The Foundation especially thanks those who recently gave during the back-to-school campaign; donations and matching funds reached a record of nearly $20,000.

Research shows that one of the most effective ways to improve student performance and to close the achievement gap is to extend the learning day and learning year. Thanks to you, the Foundation is able to support before and after-school homework clubs and tutoring to students in five District schools. The LINKS mentoring program reached 788 students last year! Summer school scholarships were provided to 105 elementary students. Thanks to this outstanding community who supports education through volunteerism, PTSA, passing school levies and donating to the Lake Washington Schools Foundation. Thank you!

This spring, the Foundation will host its annual A Legacy for Learning luncheon. This luncheon is the Foundation's primary fundraiser and directly benefits student learning. If you are interested in volunteering at the luncheon, visit the Foundation website at www.lwsf.org

Happy Holidays!
