Addressing Early Misconceptions
From their earliest experiences, children begin to establish ideas about agriculture and food. From television and advertising to pre-school books and animation, children can generate misconceptions and stereotypes about farms, ranches and food production. Research has demonstrated that if misconceptions are not addressed, any new learning is built upon falsehoods and learners end up with very confused beliefs and ideas about agriculture.
The Early Misconceptions program will make students aware that farmers are business people of all kinds and that many of the things students have been led to believe about agriculture is untrue. They will also learn that farmers and ranchers use the same technology as other citizens- on and off the farm or ranch.
