outstanding effort to educate people in their communities about agriculture. The Foundation is proud to announce that it has chosen Rock County (MN) Farm Bureau's "I Met a Farmer" Tour as the first program to recognize.

The "I Met a Farmer" Tour involved taking a diverse group of local individuals to tour four farms: a beef farm, grain farm, dairy farm and swine farm. Rock County Farm Bureau wanted to provide attendees with a personal, real life, hands-on experience of what happens on today's farms. They also wanted to give their guests the opportunity to ask questions in a small group or one-on-one about how the food they eat is raised and cared for.

In order to be well prepared for answering questions Rock County Farm Bureau invited several experts on beef, dairy, swine and corn farming on the tour. Throughout

the tour the guests were awed by the number of hats the modern American farmer has to wear, from scientist to bookkeeper.

During the tour the guests were delighted to witness the birth of a calf, an unplanned occurrence that was met with great excitement. At the end of the day the group had gained a greater understanding and respect for the farmers in their community and the workings of a modern American farm.

Rock County Farm Bureau plans to make the tour an annual event. Already people are asking how to get invited to the next "I Met a Farmer" Tour.

The "I Met a Farmer" Tour is an example of how we can go above and beyond to educate and tell their story about agriculture. The Foundation congratulates Rock County Farm Bureau for helping to build awareness, understanding and a positive public perception of agriculture through education.
