We were delighted to meet here in the U.S. with our Executive Director of the Simonton Japan program, Nobuko Kawabata Hashimoto. She had much to report! Simonton Japan has just completed it's first seminar exclusively for cancer therapy professionals, conducted with the assistance of Takashi Hosaka, M.D., Director of Psycho-oncology at St. Lukes Hospital. She would like to remind those interested that Japan's next Simonton Patient Program, is scheduled for 10/22 - 10/27, 2012 . Intern Training training will take place 11/10/12 to 3/10/13.
For more information, please contact SCC Japan at www.simontonjapan.com.
"Simonton Says"    Goal Setting:
carl"Write balanced goals for what you want to do- including activities that provide personal meaning as well as pleasure.
Short term goals should identify sources of immediate pleasure and gratification. The longer range goals should express objectives that take longer to achieve and that affirm your expectation of living to meet them. Setting long term goals can sometimes be frustrating because you see a great gap between the desired object and your present situation. Yet, listing specific action steps needed to meet the goal will show you the precise activities you can perform to reach it. Breaking down even the longest range goal into it's component parts makes each step manageable and the end-product within reach. Action steps are not major acts or decisions but a series of modest, attainable steps."   GWA
Simonton Italy was a presence and a presenter for the 5th European Congress for Integrative Medicine this year.
This event took place at the 19th century Villa Vitoria in Florence, Italy on September 21-22.
Executive Director Cornelia Kasper gave a presentation and participated in a round table on the Simonton method related to the future of comprehensive patient care.

In our discussions, she stated it was the  largest European Congress of Integrative  Medicine thus far, showing the need and  interest in this area. "Feedback was very  good on the presentations and much interest  was shown by physicians and therapists,  particularly from Italy, Switzerland, the  Netherlands and Germany."

This is an exciting first step for SCC as we  begin our own new workshops here in the  U.S.

 'Speak' more kindly to yourself.

Be aware of how your unhealthy thoughts may be contributing -and continuing- your unhappiness or depression.

Notice how your mood can shift with something as simple
as a full breath and by physically standing straighter.

turn around photoGoals: "Turn It Around!"
Remember: We can only begin from where we currently are- Waiting until "things" get better before making improvements in our lives in unproductive.
Recognize we have a choice.
Know that what we believe about our current circumstances has a powerful effect on how we view our life, our health and our ability to reach our short and long term goals.

Be Aware and Move towards Shifting your Perspective!

"Oh, I see," said the Tin Woodsman. "But after all, brains are not the best things in the world."
Have you any?" enquired the Scarecrow.
"No, my head is quite empty,"answered the Woodsman; "but once I had brains and a heart also; so having tried them both, I should much rather have a heart."

"I shall take the heart. For brains do not make one happy, and happiness is the best thing in the world."

Goals must meet 2 important criteria. Your goal should be stated or written in a way that is MEASURABLE - and it should have an attainable DATE attached to it. For example: "I want to lose weight" or " I will lose weight", is not as powerful as saying, " I will weigh 140 lbs by January 1st, 2013.
"I would like to own my own business", is not as powerful as saying, "I will take my brokers license by May 3rd". "I will take better care of myself", is not as powerful as saying, " I will practice my mindful breathing ten minutes a day."

 Communication:

Communicate your needs or desires clearly and realize it may not be possible for you to have this need met at this time or by this person.

Be willing to hear "No."

(or in this case - Nope, Never,
Not in this lifetime, Big Boy!)
