Valpo Chamber Announces Executive Board Committee Members | |

The Valpo Chamber is proud to announce its Executive Board Committee members for 2012. Jon Schmaltz of Burke Costanza & Carberry LLP, will serve as Chairman of the Board and Jonathan Nalli of Porter Health System will serve as Chair Elect.
In addition to Schmaltz and Nalli, Bob Ax of 1st Source Bank will serve as Treasurer; Tina Bengs of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC as Vice-Chair of Public Policy; Desila Rosetti of Organizational Development Solutions, Inc. as Vice-Chair of Member Services; Jeff Lewis of Design Organization as Vice-Chair of Special Events and Martin Sonnenberg of Task Force Tips as Immediate Past Chair.
For nearly a century, the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce has been promoting the interests of its members by providing the highest quality information, advocacy, networking opportunities, and member services. The Valpo Chamber is one of the larger chamber organizations in the area with more than 700 members representing entrepreneurial companies, financiers, and professional firms. In 2012, the Chamber will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. |

Valpo Chamber to Host "Right to Work" Educational Forum Wednesday Evening 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. | |
 The Valpo Chamber Public Policy Committee will host a "Right to Work" Educational Forum on Wednesday, December 7 at the Valpo Chamber, 162 Lincolnway from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This panel discussion will include business owners from Valparaiso and Portage, the Director of United Steel Workers District 7, and an Indiana Chamber representative.
Legislative leaders in the Indiana General Assembly say right-to-work legislation will be a top priority during the 2012 legislative session.

Saluting Distinguished Citizens of Valparaiso
Bob Urschel and Dee Haklin to be honored by Chamber | |
 The Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce will host its annual "A Salute to Leadership" dinner on Saturday, January 14, 2012. This black-tie optional evening will begin with cocktails at 6:00 pm at Strongbow Inn, 2405 US 30 E in Valparaiso. Dinner will be served, with the awards ceremony to follow.
The Board of Directors of the Valpo Chamber will honor Bob Urschel, Urschel Laboratories, Inc. with the 2011 Distinguished Community Leader Award. "This award is given to an individual who demonstrates a leadership role, is successful in promoting and developing business and industry, is involved and contributes to the community, has a general reputation among the community business leaders and enhances the quality of life in our community on a sustained basis," stated Rex Richards, Chamber president.
Dee Haklin, Ivy Tech Community College, will be awarded the 2011 Legacy of Service Award. The Valpo Chamber Board of Directors created the Legacy of Service Award in 2004 to give special recognition to individuals in the community who have, over the course of time or in an extraordinary circumstance, given service to the community beyond what is expected in their profession. "Dee is a terrific example to which others might aspire and learn the value of community service," added Richards.
Outgoing 2011 Board Chair, Martin Sonnenberg, Task Force Tips, and incoming 2011 Board Chair, Jon Schmaltz, Burke Costanza & Carberry LLP will also be honored. Presenting sponsor for the event is Porter Health System. Reservations will be available soon.

The Valpo Chamber Leadership Academy recently graduated its sixth class of emerging community leaders.

The Leadership Academy Program, established in 2006, brings together business and community leaders to create a network of speakers and mentors who participate in coaching sessions, small-group discussions, and skill-building seminars with the program's students.
During the focused seven-session program, participants are infused in the community, exploring the public/city government, private business sector, and non-profit organizations that currently benefit from local leaders.
Upon completion, students are expected to take the insights, skills, and contacts gained and apply them to community organizations. To date, over 55 local organizations have benefited from volunteer time from the Leadership Academy participants, past and present.
