| Valpo Chamber Members honored as "Companies to Watch" | |
The Valpo Chamber would like to congratulate Chamber members Diversified Marketing Strategies and Retro-Tech Systems, Inc. for being named two of 43 "Indiana Companies to Watch" in 2011 by the Indiana Chamber of
Commerce.
Honorees are privately-owned firms that have advanced beyond the start-up phase and are focused on steady, sustainable growth. They employ six to 150 full-time equivalent workers and generate annual revenue or working capital of $750,000 to $100 million.
Companies are selected by a panel of judges convened by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, its Small Business Development Center network, Purdue University and the Edward Lowe Foundation.

| October Percolator Luncheon to cover "State of the Schools" | |

On Thursday, October 13, the Valpo Chamber will feature Dr. Andrew Melin, Superintendent of Valparaiso Community Schools, as he gives the "State of the Schools" Address at the monthly Percolator Club Luncheon.
The luncheon will be held at Strongbow Inn, 2405 US Hwy 30 at 12:00 p.m. Dr. Melin came to Valparaiso from the position of Superintendent of the Peru School System in Peru, Indiana.
Dr. Melin has presided over the formation of a new strategic plan for the Valparaiso School System. Recently, a number of the schools in Valparaiso were given very high achievement status by the Indiana Department of Education.

| Valpo Chamber Election Forums | |
The Valpo Chamber once again is organizing Election Forums to feature several city candidates providing an opportunity to express their positions on various issues before the November elections.
There will be two Forum evenings. Both events are open to the public, 90 minutes in length, and free to attend.
The Mayoral candidates Forum will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at the Chicago Street Theatre, 152 W Chicago Street beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Mayoral candidates invited to participate include Jon Costas and Robert McCasland.
The City Council candidates Forum will be held Thursday, October 20, at the Memorial Opera House, 104 Indiana Avenue at 7:00 p.m.

Each Forum will begin with a two-minute introduction prepared and presented by each candidate. After the introductions, a series of questions, prepared in advance by the Valpo Chamber, will be posed to each candidate focusing on relevant community issues.
Each candidate will have opportunity to answer each question within a one-minute time limit. During each event, audience members will be able to submit written questions. Questions will be screened for relevancy and each candidate will have a chance to respond. Each candidate will be provided two minutes to make final remarks. |
