| Valpo Chamber Approves New Strategic Objectives | |
In May, the Valpo Chamber Executive Committee hammered out a new set of strategic objectives that has since been approved by the Board of Directors. When accomplished, over the next several years, these strategic objectives will make the Valpo Chamber a stronger and more dynamic membership-based business organization.
Valpo Chamber Strategic Objectives:
· Improve communication by surveying the membership to find out what our members feel is important.
· Engage the Valparaiso City Council on Chamber programs and initiatives.
· Advocate priority in spending proceeds of $185 million resulting from the sale of Porter Hospital.
· Inform the membership of the importance of Porter County Regional Airport and its impact on industrial expansion and job growth.
· Expand advocacy on state legislative issues impacting Valparaiso businesses.
· Increase dialogue with federal elected officials for business, city, and regional projects.
· Use 100-year Chamber Anniversary, in 2012, to build new resources and membership numbers.
· Engage Valparaiso School system on capital expenditures for needs of K-12 schools.
For nearly a century, the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce has been promoting the interests of its members by providing the highest quality information, advocacy, networking opportunities, and member services.

| Disney Institute Coming to Valpo Chamber! | |
The Valpo Chamber is buzzing about a certain mouse coming to Valparaiso! On Tuesday, August 16, the Valpo Chamber will host Disney Institute.
Disney's Approach to Business Excellence is an exciting workshop for any business professional in any industry. The one-day seminar is divided into four sessions: Leadership Excellence, People Management, Quality Service, and Brand Loyalty.
This full-day event will be held at Valparaiso University Harre Union from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The cost of attending the event is $400/per person. Payment options are available. Registration is available online or call the Chamber at (219) 462-1105. |
| 44th Annual Community Improvement Awards Celebrate Commitment to Valparaiso | |

The Valpo Chamber and the City of Valparaiso recognized 10 local businesses for their commitment and investment in Valparaiso by awarding them with a 44th Annual Community Improvement Award. A luncheon, sponsored by Porter Health System, was held July 6 to honor the recipients and their projects that improve our city.
These projects join the more than 200 properties that have been recognized since the awards program began in 1967. Community Improvement Awards are based on the visual impact of exterior appearance and are judged on the following criteria: enhances the attractiveness of Valparaiso; compatible with the area and environment; creativity/innovation in both design and use of materials; enhances the quality of life and promotes pride in Valparaiso; and makes a commitment to Valparaiso's future.

The Valparaiso Historic Preservation Commission also presented its Heritage Award for Historic Preservation at the luncheon. This award is given to the owner of a building whose construction or renovation efforts result in significant enhancements reinforcing the historic character of Valparaiso. Recipients were Martin Binder Jeweler, Inc. and Valparaiso University Heritage Hall. |

| FunDay Golf Classic Once Again Successful | |
Over 180 participants gathered for the annual Valpo Chamber FunDay Classic Golf Outing at The Course at Aberdeen, and enjoyed a day filled with spectacular weather, fun, and relaxation. The premier golf event provided members with an opportunity to allow themselves, their business associates, and good friends to a great day of golf. Golfers were treated to opportunities to win great prizes, special games, and 18 holes of golf on a beautiful course. Highlights of the day included:
