SECRETS OF RAKU REVEALED
Lampwork Etc Thread

Ever wondered what "Raku" or Iris Orange will produce? It can be tricky, but once you have it mastered it will bring a lot of joy and pleasure.

There is a fantastic thread that Dawn Scannell started on LampworkEtc.com in 2006 that has become a reputed reference for anyone wanting to get the most from Raku.  Dawn posted many of her amazing Raku beads (below left and bottom right - click on the pictures to see the full photos) in this thread that are very worthy of taking a look at.  What Dawn can get out of Rauku is fantastic.  Also pictured below right is a marble using Raku by Richsantaclaus in the same thread. It's a long thread with lots of tips and hints and wonderful pics of Raku creations, certainly worth a full read.

PERFECT PRESSING WITHOUT CHILL MARKS

GlassBeadmakers Thread

Raymond aka "The Alchemist" on GlassBeadmaker.net initiated a post of how to use brass presses and not get those unsightly chill marks.

Raymond wrote ... "For soft soda glasses I use brass moulds extensively.  Needing to get perfect surfaces on my pressed beads and large preforms I replaced the wooden handles with stainless steel rods, this does not conduct the heat very well and allows you to handle the hot brass blocks.

I heat the moulds with a bunsen burner prior to use."   Read the rest of Raymond's post here
