Network Computing Covers Connection Broker 7.0

Reporter Beth Bacheldor provides a good overview of the Connection Broker and the new features in 7.0, highlighting our vendor-neutral approach to managing VDI, our integration with VMware View, and our new remote access for Apple iPad devices.

The article states:

"...Connection Broker provides organizations with a vendor-neutral, unified solution for managing a variety of desktops...The [VMware View] integration also provides View administrators with the versatility of the Leostream Connection Broker, letting them extend VDI to include a variety of different platforms while providing users with a single login to all resources."

The article also highlights one of Leostream's successful large-scale VDI deployments, the Universit de Rennes 2, located in Brittany, France.

According to Humberto Duarte, the university's IT department co-director, their VDI currently supports 17,000 students and faculty members. "The university will upgrade to Connection Broker 7.0. The new support for handhelds is particularly compelling. Most of the university's mobile workers have iPhones. In addition, the university's art students and researches use iPads . 'All these users connect to the VMs from laptops using Leostream. Now they want to extend this functionality to their handheld devices,' he says."

Virtualization Review on Connection Broker 7.0

Bruce Hoard gave a kudos to Connection Broker 7.0 in his Virtualization Review blog, The Hoard Facts . . .

"...Leostream shows why a good connection broker can keep a company in business...Connection Broker 7.0 enhances the company's already solid grip on really big enterprises through its new compatibility with a range of mobile devices, including Apple, iPad and iPhone."

The article has a great quote from our own CTO, Eric Hanselman:

"According to Leostream CTO Eric Hanselman, his company's goal is to provide software that evolutionizes as opposed to revolutionizes existing systems by integrating seamlessly into legacy environments. 'If you can build this as a fresh solution, OK, but in a large enterprise, a lot of the big pieces are already built. This can be a complex beast, and we don't want to be the manager of everything," he says.

eWeek Coverage of Connection Broker 7.0

Chris Preimesberger of eWeek chimed in on Connection Broker 7.0. His article quotes The 451 Group, saying:

"For virtualization growth to continue, end-users need to trust that their virtual desktops will perform reliably and provide the computing performance they require, while  IT administrators need streamlined, 'single-pane-of-glass' management for VDI," said Rachel Chalmers, research director, Infrastructure Management at The 451 Group.

"Leostream Connection Broker 7.0 addresses these areas very effectively. Furthermore, Leostream's vendor-neutral approach can address C-level concerns about achieving ROI in large-scale deployments, while leveraging existing heterogeneous infrastructure."
