Dear Families,
I hope that you and your children are hard at work eating fresh berries, swimming in cool water, and spending time together enjoying your favorite parts of summer. While each of us at Conservatory Lab is finding time for much-needed respite, this is also a time for exciting preparations. We are getting to know new staff, preparing space and materials, and carefully laying plans for another dynamic year of learning, growing, and music-making.
Our summer program ended last Friday, after two weeks of musical and academic enrichment. Students had an opportunity to meet two of the new resident artists, and the Dudamel orchestra held rehearsals for a collaborative concert with BalletRox dance studio that will culminate in an electrifying performance this September.
In August, we will hold orientation meetings for our new K1 class and for our upper school students. If you have a child going into K1, 5th, or 6th grade, I strongly urge you to come and learn about what is in store for this year. Whether you are new to Conservatory Lab or returning, the coming academic year promises to be full of new opportunities, new friendships, and just enough adventure.

Warmly,
Diana Lam
Head of School

Dance/Play: An artistic convergence of sound and motion
On September 25, at 5:00 in the afternoon, musicians from the Dudamel orchestra will perform on the stage of the Strand theatre with dancers from the BalletRox dance company, in a collaborative concert of sound and movement. The concert will feature highlights from the repertoire of both groups individually, in addition to combined numbers. Throughout the summer enrichment program, the two groups held several rehearsals together, in which students explored the connections between movement and music, from the locomotion of their bow arms to the flow of air through their lungs. This opportunity was made possible through a grant from the Hunt Alternatives Fund. Don't forget to mark your calendar for this exciting event!

Staying Cool in Summer School

From July 11 to 22, seventy Conservatory Lab students in grades 2-5 attended the school's first Summer Enrichment Program. During the two weeks, students studied, rehearsed, and drank plenty of water in the summer heat. The program was an excellent opportunity for the students to meet two of the new resident artists: Strings Leader Joshua Garver and Chorus Leader Erin Bollacker. Students in the Dudamel Orchestra enjoyed traveling to Jamaica Plain for rehearsals with the BalletRox Dance Company.
