NEW ADRC STAFF
We are excited to announce that the office located in Community Connections is running full force thanks to the addition of two new staff members. We would like to welcome Debbie Tidwell, Resource Coordinator, to our staff. Debbie relocated from Pocatella, Idaho just to join our staff and we are very excited to have her here. Debbie is a licensed social worker with a Bachelors degree in Arts and Science from Idaho State University.
We also want to welcome our new secretary, Kristin Barnhart to our staff. Kristin is a Longview local and she majored in Office Administration at Kilgore College.
These two ladies have a very sincere desire to serve and they are committed to making the East Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center a dependable and highly visible source within the community. If you haven't met our new staff yet, we encourage you to stop by and get acquainted!

MAY IS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Older Americans month is an occasion to show appreciation and support for our seniors as they continue to enrich and strengthen our communities. This year's theme - Older Americans: Connecting the Community - pays homage to the many ways in which older adults bring inspiration and continuity to the fabric of our communities, and highlights how technology is helping older Americans live longer, healthier, and more engaged lives. The U.S. Administration on Aging is sponsoring two exciting activities in observance of Older Americans Month 2011, a video challenge and a video game tournament. We welcome and encourage the participation of seniors and community members across the county. For more information about Older Americans Month, visit www.OlderAmericansMonth.org

DREAM BIG, ACT BIG
On April 16, 2011, the East Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center along with Community HealthCore and the ARC of Gregg County co- sponsored this event at Pine Tree Junior High School in Longview, TX. All who attended were uplifted and encouraged during this two hour presentation by Croix Sather. At age 14 Croix was riding home on his bicycle, when a drunk driver hit him head on. The Neurosurgen told his parents, "If he survives the night, he will be a vegetable for the rest of his life." Croix did survive, and is now running across America in his Dream Big, Act Big tour to spread his message of hope and encouragement.
ABOUT DREAM BIG, ACT BIG!
Dream Big, Act Big! 100 marathons and 100 seminars, in 100 days. It's a monumental journey to realize a dream and inspire millions of other dreams. What can you do in 100 days? We all have the seeds of greatness within us. We are perfectly created to shape our own future into anything that we desire. Sometimes we simply need someone to show us how to grow that seed. On February 26, 2011 Croix Sather began a 3,000 mile journey from San Diego to New York City through grueling desert heat, over majestic mountains, in heartland fertile farmlands, past national parks, in the canyons of the greatest cities, and on spectacular stages with a simple and profound message - Dream Big, Act Big. Dream Big, Act Big is a run and inspirational seminar tour through urban and rural America hungry for the strategies to rise above their environment. Croix will run more than 30 miles a day plus give spectacular talks about following your dream in the face of challenges and rise above your circumstances, environment, and experiences to create an amazing life beyond measure.
