As the weather turns colder and the economy continues to struggle, many families, seniors and those living alone are worried about staying warm this winter. Over 12,000 people will apply for heating assistance this season. Based on last year's figures, approximately 2,000 of those applying will not qualify for federal assistance but will still demonstrate a need.

In this difficult economy, families that have never needed assistance before are finding they need help due to unexpected job loss, illness or other challenging circumstances. The Penquis Good Neighbor Fund will help such families stay safe and warm this winter.

Penquis and Cumulus Radio stations are asking businesses to make a direct donation or choose one or more days between the months of November and April to host  "Dress Down Days" in your workplace to support the Penquis Good Neighbor Fund.

Businesses that participate will receive recognition on Cumulus stations, Facebook, local newspapers and the Penquis website. Once a business is registered, Penquis will send a packet with information about the Good Neighbor Fund, posters, a sample letter to employees, suggested donation amounts and stickers for employees who participate. Participation will not only bring comfort to those spending the day in denim, but also, more importantly, help our friends and neighbors stay warm and safe during the cold winter months!

If your workplace is unable to participate in dress down days but would still like to be a part of supporting the Good Neighbor Fund, contact Penquis for other fundraising ideas or make a donation below. Together we can make a difference!
