Beginner Cow Working

Ranch Horsemanship and Roping Clinic

If you've always wanted to work cattle with your horse but didn't know how to start, this clinic is for you! Almost all the cattle work will be done at walk and trot. This clinic is open to English and Western riders, youth and adult. No previous cattle working or roping experience is necessary.

Beginner Cow Work

Even if you never plan on working with cattle in the future you will develop a much more responsive and handy horse by giving him the opportunity to work cattle, plus you'll have lots of fun! We'll go slow and start with the basics. This is not for rodeo or competitive sport. We will be teaching and practicing "low stress stockmanship" for practical ranch work skills. We may do some herd driving, penning, sorting and cutting, not as a timed event but rather the way a real working cowboy handles his daily tasks.

Ranch Horsemanship

Ranch Horsemanship teaches your horse how to listen to your cues and move responsively for gait transitions, stops, roll-backs and turn arounds. Cattle work gives your horse a practical reason for learning how to listen to you, really use his body and move in a variety of ways.

Beginner Roping

Beginner roping will teach your horse to calmly accept the movement of the rope and teach you how to handle a rope, build and throw a loop along with dally and drag skills. Roping will be done on dummies and live cattle out of the herd. We'll be using break-away ropes on the live cattle. This will be herd roping, not rodeo style out of the box.
