Dear Friends,

It is truly a blessing to be able to provide you with information about the kavod, (honor or recognition) that the Academy and those affiliated with it are garnering on a regular basis. With your help, may we continue to go from strength to strength!

WASC VISITS AJRCA

In March, representatives from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) held a series of meetings with Academy representatives at the AJRCA campus. The visit by WASC officials was part of the ongoing process to achieve accreditation. According to AJRCA President, Rabbi Mel Gottlieb, in the exit interview the WASC visiting team "expressed a highly complimentary assessment of our institution. They extolled our 'spirit,' our leadership, our unified vision that was expressed by each of our constituencies, our major progress that was achieved since their last visit in our detailed attention to faculty and student assessment and learning outcomes, our empowered outstanding committed faculty and enthusiastic student body, our hard-working competent administrative staff, our forthright and dedicated Board leadership, and our commitment to further growth and contribution to the Jewish community of the 21st century. They commented that we have moved from a fledgling state to one of maturity, accomplishment, and have become an academy that has the potential to make a major creative contribution to the contemporary world. For this we are very grateful." Rabbi Gottlieb also expressed his appreciation to Dr. Tamar Frankiel, "for her outstanding, enthusiastic, detailed, organized, leadership role as WASC liaison and Dean of Academic Affairs."

AJRCA OPEN HOUSE A MAJOR SUCCESS

In an ongoing effort to reach out to potential students, AJRCA Director of Admissions & Recruitment, Janet Barzilay, organized a very successful Open House on Sunday, April 3rd. The Academy hosted about 16 potential applicants interested in learning more about the Rabbinical, Cantorial and Chaplaincy Schools. While the majority of those who attended were from in and around the Los Angeles area, there were also those who made the trip from Northern California. In addition to Janet's introductory remarks, AJRCA President, Rabbi Mel Gottlieb spoke about the school and its mission, and Cantorial student, Marsha Attie, provided musical entertainment. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with and ask questions of Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Tamar Frankiel, as well as current students.  They were also able to sit in on some classes. In summarizing the event, Janet said "I was very pleased with the turnout for the Open House; our prospective students were diverse and interesting and brought great and positive energy to the event.  Since then, we've received wonderful feedback from the attendees about the Open House itself and the AJRCA experience in general."

LATEST IN ONGOING SERIES FOR PHYSICIANS AND ETHICISTS
On May 2nd, the Academy sponsored the latest in an ongoing special series of colloquia for physicians and bio-ethicists, the objective of which is to provide a forum for physicians to discuss candidly the bioethical dilemmas they face in their daily practice, and receive guidance and support from Jewish and secular bio-ethicists. This latest program, attended by physicians representing a variety of specialties, was entitled "Ethical Issues in the Relationship between Industry and Medicine."

AJRCA LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
In late February, the Academy launched a new website. While the address remains the same as the previous website, www.ajrca.org, there was a complete overhaul in terms of new text, pages, navigation and design. Perhaps the most compelling aspect of the new site is that it includes 39 videos featuring members of the administration, faculty, students and alumni; all of which are also available for viewing on YouTube. As part of the "build out" of the site, over 160 words and phrases were submitted for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the impact of that has been significant. In the Google Analytics report for the month of March (the first month after the website was launched), there was a 61.53% increase in the number of visitors to the site and a 79.64% increase in the number

of page views.
