In mid-March, Cantor Kay
Greenwald, President of the American Conference of Cantors (ACC) notified
Cantor Perryne Anker, Associate Dean of the Cantorial School
that the ACC Board had passed a motion "stating that cantorial graduates of the
Academy of Jewish Religion, California (AJR, CA) will have the opportunity to
apply to the ACC for membership beginning in June 2010, or shortly thereafter."
The Academy would like to acknowledge and thank Cantor Anker for her help in
bringing this new honor to

Ilana Goldhaber-Gordon, a first year Rabbinical student, had her essay
"Control and Order, Wonder and Chaos," published in the March 2nd
issue of the online magazine, Zeek, a Jewish Journal of Thought and Culture.

Rabbi Nina Perlmutter,
'09 has been invited to serve on the
Board of Rabbis of Greater Phoenix. Rabbi Perlmutter is the spiritual leader of Heichal Baoranim, an inclusive Reform
synagogue in Flagstaff, Arizona. In addition, she is the contact for
Jewish Services and Programs at Grand
Canyon National Park,
the first time "Jewish" is being listed in the Religious Worship
section of visitor literature.

Rabbi Anne Brener, AJR, CA Professor of
Ritual and Human Development, had her review of the movie, A Serious Man,
published in the March 1st issue of The Jewish Journal of Greater
Los Angeles. On March 7th, J.J. Goldberg, Senior Columnist for The
Forward, lauded Rabbi Brener's piece, "When The
Truth Is Found to Be Lies: The Coen Brothers' Rorschach for Serious People,"
calling it "a brilliant review-essay on the film."

Chaplain Bonnie
Leopold, '07 was profiled in the
February issue of The Lamplighters online newsletter. The Lamplighters, an
organization which offers support for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, incest,
domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, praised Chaplain Leopold for "her
warmth, her understanding, her dedication and her spirituality" as well as "the
many hours she has spent helping people with child sexual abuse as their
issue." She was also profiled in the February 28th issue of The
Daily Breeze newspaper.

Rabbi Paul Shleffar,
'06 has been elected Treasurer of the
Northern California Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Shleffar is the Director of the
Center for Contemporary Jewish Spirituality (Redwood City, CA).

On March 8th, Rabbi
Lawrence P. Seidman, PhD '09 discussed the meeting of religion and reason on
"The Rick Barber Show" on News Radio Station KOA (Denver, CO).
Holding a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Rabbi Seidman had an illustrious
engineering and management career and, upon his ordination established the "Rational Rabbi" pastoral care practice (Irvine, CA).
