"Paycheck to Paycheck" comes to SOURCEBOOK

"Paycheck to Paycheck" will be added as new feature to SOURCEBOOK in July. SOURCEBOOK, Virginia's premier resource on housing affordability will now allow users to relate the incomes of various occupations, including fire fighters, nurses, and school teachers, to the cost of housing in their area.
This new tool will compare 30% of the typical salary of over 60 different types of workers to the typical cost to own or rent a home. The "Paycheck to Paycheck" feature will give the option of selecting from five preselected occupations or selecting from any one of the different occupations.
This feature will also allow the user to input a specific occupation and salary and the program will automatically calculate the maximum affordable housing cost for that occupation and compare it to the typical housing costs in a locality. The tool is modeled after the National Housing Conference/Center for Housing Policy's "Paycheck to Paycheck" analysis.
In addition to this feature, the data and Housing Affordability Indexes in SOURCEBOOK will be updated in July to reflect first quarter 2011 data. Stay tuned to SOURCEBOOK for a new Housing and Transportation Affordability Index coming later this fall.
