Letter from the Chair

Dear Stakeholder,

You are reading this first issue of Housing Virginia's e-newsletter---   because you are a key stakeholder.  Whether a housing provider, policy maker, homebuilder, advocate or REALTOR, you believe that affordable housing matters, and at Housing Virginia so do we.

Affordable housing is critical to healthy community living: a young family trying to buy their first home,   service workers wanting to live near where they work or renters needing quality choices.

Through Housing Virginia website resources, technical assistance, forums, research and timely information, we want to stay in touch and support your work in building partnerships, talking to decision makers and educating the public.

Join our mailing list today to stay in touch and connect to information important to your region.  I encourage you to visit our website at www.housingvirginia.org and find out why affordable housing starts here.

Sincerely,

Kit Hale

Board Chair, Housing Virginia

Housing Affordability Index and Sourcebook for Virginia Coming

The Housing Affordability Index (HAI) and Sourcebook providing a variety of measures of housing affordability for localities, regions and state will soon be available at the Housing Virginia website. The HAI indices measures the relationships between both buyers' and renters' household incomes and

housing costs.

This is the first set of housing indices in the nation to consider both buyer and renter affordability on a statewide basis, regionally and locally.

The overall HAI reflects the percentage of the typical household's income that is

necessary to afford the typical home.
