Greetings!

I hope you are staying cool during this steamy summer.  Besides looking to be comfortable, it is important to balance out excess heat in our bodies by taking cooling measures so that we don't create inflammatory conditions, short or "hot tempers," or overheat our systems.  If you are feeling the heat, then please read on for some cooling advice:
  • Brew a batch of peppermint tea sweetened with raw honey and place it in the fridge overnight for a truly cooling iced tea
  • Soak a t-shirt in cool water and wring it out before putting it on - it will feel like you have the AC on!
  • Soak your feet in a bucket of cool water.  As the body radiates heat from the extremities, cooling your feet will cool the body (add mint to the bucket if you can)
  • Shower with a peppermint soap
  • Add cucumber slices to your water pitcher
  • Place a cucumber slice on your forehead - it works!
  • Reduce dehydrating beverages like coffee, alcohol and soda
  • Prepare and drink sun tea (leave herbs such as mint, hibiscus, calendula, chamomile, or herbal tea bags in a glass jar of water and let it sit on the window sill or outside for 2-4 hours)
  • Increase water, sun tea, fresh juices and green smoothies BEFORE you feel thirsty - usually by then you are already dehydrated
  • Make ice pops using a green smoothie recipe
  • Eat light meals that include mostly fruits and vegetables with high water content
  • Increase foods with cooling thermal properties, such as melon, apple, pear, mango, celery, cucumber, mint, radish, summer squashes, escarole, endive, cabbage and dandelion greens
  • Think cooling thoughts - winter isn't that far away!

Wishing you a balanced and relaxing August,
Jennifer
