WELCOME to Issue Four!
Greetings!
After the festive holiday season, we'd like to thank our friends who made 2009 - our inaugural year - such a success! We're truly excited about the dedication everyone has brought to BridgeThink from the partnerships we made during the "Building Bridges to the Homeland" film festival in New Bedford, MA, to the readers of our Newsletter and finally the friends we met during our first Global Dialogue, "SoCo to SoCal." As we develop our mission of connecting creative communities globally, we look forward to building more opportunities together. This month we highlight our achievements in 2009 and give you a preview of what's to come in 2010. Read on and Enjoy!
***In light of world news, we'd like
to extend our thoughts and prayers to the people of Haiti and our
readers who may have been effected by the earthquake that struck
there last week. The devastation is unbelievable to say the
least. Those interested can visit this link at the New York Times for a list of organizations providing relief
efforts. Please consider helping out. Disasters like this can
effect any corner of our creative globe.***

NEW TO BRIDGETHINK?
|
BridgeThink.org
is a new media resource connecting filmmakers, artists and business
across creative communities. We host global dialogues,
provide forums to post resources, publish a monthly newsletter and much more! At the root of our thinking is the
crazy idea that when more people are connected, the more they
accomplish. So, if you have something shaking in your hometown, let us
know! All it takes is
two people to connect for an idea to
ignite.
We invite you to become a Bridge-thinker.
Conceive, Connect, Create... |
WHAT DID 2009 BRING US?
|
"Building Bridges to the Homeland" film festival in New Bedford, MA: Drew 600 people, 19 Arts & Cultural Partners and 16 Business Sponsors.
Started a monthly Newsletter: reports on forward thinking, interdisciplinary projects that "bridge" traditional boundaries (available in English & Portuguese).
"SoCo to SoCal" the first of our Global Dialogue Series: aimed at connecting filmmakers and artists with live dialogue-driven events. (look for details on "SoCo to SoCal" below).
Helped connect the short film production "Busted Balls" with its regional community through consulting and publicity aimed at developing public awareness of how filmmakers positively effect the region in which they create.
|
WHAT'S COMING UP IN 2010?
|
In Twenty10 We Will...
Continue to connect creators locally and expose them globally by providing forward-thinking stories you won't find just anywhere.
Expand our coverage to include stories from active organizations & creators in countries such as Brazil, Sweden and Germany.
* Continue our Global Dialogue Series. Connecting people isn't just providing information, it's also getting folks to talk with each other. Building on our news coverage, we'll continue to find ways for creators to dialogue with each other and with a growing global audience.
* Video Segments will soon become regular parts of our newsletters and blog.
* "Meet the Team" profiles will continue next month with BridgeThink's Technical Coordinator and Public Relations Adviser, Ron Scopelliti.
* We'll continue to connect creative projects with the communities in which they are working. In particular, we'll continue to develop an internship opportunity for students on a regional film production.
Would you like to help with any of these goals? Let us know. Send us a note at: [email protected] |

OUR FIRST GLOBAL DIALOGUE: "SOCO TO SOCAL"
|
In December, BridgeThink held the first of its Global Dialogue series by pairing three filmmaking groups in the South Coast of Massachusetts with three filmmakers in Los Angeles for "SoCo to SoCal," a bicoastal filmmaker screening and dialogue. In front of an intimate audience at LA's Echo Park Film Center, both groups were united via Skype's video call feature. Their conversation was then broadcast live to the web by uStream.tv where viewers everywhere took part in the conversation. BridgeThink fielded questions from both the studio and online audiences - making this the first combination live/online film festival. The event's theme (benefits and challenges of regional to "resource access" filmmaking) dealt with how filmmakers are reaching new audiences. Check back next month for a video of the event and an example of what you can look forward to as we continue the BridgeThink Global Dialogue Series!

"BUSTED BALLS" STARTS POST PRODUCTION
|
In October we posted a story on Silent Dinner Productions' short Christmas comedy, "Busted Balls" as it started principle photography in the South Coast of Massachusetts. Along with a phenomenal team of local cast and crew, writer-producer Tommy Whalen and producer-director Arielle Guadagni have now completed principle photography on their film. BridgeThink helped connect the production with the surrounding community through publicity focused on developing awareness of the positive effects filmmaking has on a local region. Additionally, we laid the groundwork for future internship opportunities on similar productions.
We're very proud of the work this team of filmmakers has accomplished! Check out photos from the shoot at silentdinnerproductions.com/Busted_Balls and visit their website for updates as they continue moving through post production this month! |
BRIDGETHINK COLUMNISTS
|
Leila Kaas and Tommy Whalen (columnists for "Neighborhood Earth" and "Outside the Box" respectively) would like to wish everyone a happy 2010!
Both their columns will return next month with Leila's report on thought piquing art exhibitions displayed at last month's Copenhagen Climate Summit and Tommy reporting on more ways to think outside the frame when it comes to making films. Until then we welcome our column writers back from their long deserved holiday vacations! |
