StoryCorps: National Day of Listening
National Day of ListeningThe day after Thanksgiving often provides an opportunity to spend time with family and friends, making it ideal for StoryCorps' fourth annual National Day of Listening. This year, StoryCorps suggests that everyone reach out to their favorite teacher or mentor to say "Thank you for changing my life," just like this storyteller.

NPR's Linda Wertheimer and Audie Cornish each interviewed a favorite teacher on Weekend Edition last weekend, with more coming up over the holiday weekend. And StoryCorps founder Dave Isay will be on Talk of the Nation for a National Day of Listening special on Thanksgiving Day, beginning at 1 p.m. to share more stories.

Turkey Confidential: Meal Prep Triage
Turkey ConfidentialOn Thanksgiving Day, help is on the way for cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on this, the biggest cooking day of the year. This year, legendary chef Jacques Pépin and A Prairie Home Companion's Garrison Keillor stop by to chat with The Splendid Table's Lynne Rossetto Kasper during the two-hour, live call-in program.

Lynne takes your questions at (800) 537-5252 and the fun begins at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24. Recipes, tips and a place to share photos are on The Splendid Table's website.

Vehicle Donations to KGOU Hold Steady in 2011
Tow a present to your station There are many ways to show your support for KGOU -- such as, say, giving us your car! The Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program takes old cars and turns them into income for public radio stations like KGOU.

So far in 2011, KGOU has received over $17,000 from listener-donated vehicles! If you're considering donating a used car, truck, boat or RV, and perhaps getting a tax deduction in the process, you can find answers to your questions here.

Oklahoma Voices: Native American Science Series
All through November, KGOU's Oklahoma Voices has celebrated Native American Heritage Month with a series of speakers on the intersection of modern science and the knowledge of indigenous peoples. On Monday, Nov. 28, the series concludes with James Rattling Leaf, Sr. speaking on the interface between Native traditional ecological knowledge and the earth sciences. Grand Palais in ParisIf you missed any episodes, they are available in the KGOU news archives.

Then on Thanksgiving Day a special episode of Oklahoma Voices features Oklahoma watercolor artists invited to be the Délégation Amérindienne (Native American) at the exhibit of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'Eau at the Grand Palais in Paris this month. Join host Susan Shannon beginning at 9 a.m. on Nov. 24.

Movies,  Books to Fill a Long Weekend
Kermit the frogThe long Thanksgiving weekend marks the start of the holiday movie season, and NPR's movie critics have the low-down on what's worth seeing in theatres or renting at home. Check out the reviews and interviews at the NPR Movies page.

Backseat book clubIf escape through the written word is more your thing, NPR Books has suggestions for kids and adults alike. Young readers across the country are taking a trip to the Lands Beyond with Milo, Tock and Humbug in The Phantom Tollbooth, the Backseat Book Club pick for November. Tune in for All Things Considered on Nov. 29 to hear young readers' questions for author Norton Juster.
