Greetings!
It's that time of year when many of us begin to prepare for tax season.  For some, that means year-end donations to our favorite causes.

There are a number of ways to get that additional tax deduction with a year-end gift to KGOU:
~ Make an additional gift for daily operations.
~ Make a gift to any of our ongoing capital projects.
~ Donate a vehicle.

It's also the time of year when we are mindful of the good things in our lives.  All of us at KGOU are thankful for you, our listeners and members.

Thanks for subscribing to the KGOU e-Newsletter.  Send feedback to membership@kgou.org.

All the best,

KGOU Ranked in Top 30 Public Radio Stations
Radio stations are always trying to figure out how many people are listening out there, and we got some great news this week pertaining to audience measurement from Arbitron's Summer 2009 diaries:

KGOU is now among the top public radio stations nationwide for listening: ranked 30th in average quarter hour audience (number of listeners in a given 15-minute period) and 28th for AQH share (portion of total radio listeners in average quarter hour).*

In layman's terms this means that as near as such things can be measured, KGOU is among the most-listened-to public radio stations in the nation, and our audience is holding steady and may even be growing. Thanks for being a listener!

NPR Piloting Newsgathering Tool 'YouTube Direct' with New 'WonderScope' Challenge
NPR is one of a handful of news organizations pioneering YouTube Direct -- a new tool that allows a news organization to review, aggregate and display video clips produced and submitted by YouTube users.

Living with the Atom, ca. 1950sNPR's first YouTube Direct project will focus on science concepts. It's called the WonderScope, an occasional science series that solicits original video, art and animation related to a particular concept. The first assigned concept is "time". Submit your video, photos, animation or other creative handiwork by the deadline, December 17, and it could be featured on the NPR YouTube channel or on NPR.org. Get more details and watch some sample videos here.
Programs Offer Thanksgiving Recipes, Triage
Need some help getting Thanksgiving dinner on the table? KGOU will offer two opportunities next week to hear Thanksgiving tips and recipes from The Splendid Table

Turkey ConfidentialIn the show's regular time slot, Wednesday morning at 11, host Lynne Rossetto Kasper takes on the great feast vegetarian style.  Then on Thanksgiving Day, when even non-cooks are busy in the kitchen, the staff at The Splendid Table will be there, ready to help on the air and online. KGOU will broadcast Turkey Confidential, a two-hour live radio call-in, beginning at 10 a.m. (CT).

Call Lynne at 1-800-537-5252 during the live program, or participate in a live chat, send your questions over the Web, find new favorite recipes, and share pictures of your very own splendid table at the Turkey Confidential site.

Traditional Thanksgiving dishes can be heavy on wheat flour, and NPR's online Kitchen Window series has recipes for a gluten-free holiday for those with or without gluten sensitivity.  And, it wouldn't be the holidays without Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish recipe -- an inside tipster says it will be featured on the air tomorrow morning.
NPR Programs Feature National Day of Listening
National Day of ListeningStoryCorps' National Day of Listening (Friday, November 27) is just a week away, and NPR programs will feature hosts and reporters in conversation with their loved ones sprinkled throughout Thanksgiving week. These include Scott Simon and his wife Caroline speaking with their daughter about her adoption, and Daniel Schorr interviewing his son.

StoryCorps founder Dave Isay will join Neal Conan for a National Day of Listening Call-in Special at 1 p.m. (CT) on Thanksgiving Day. There's also a do-it-yourself kit for anyone interested in creating a conversation heirloom of their own.
