Octopus's Garden

Octopus's Garden, the second colorway in our Purl Diver Collection is based on a picture I took while diving with my son Michael in the Solomon Islands. One of the most interesting things about many creatures you come across while diving is their ability to change colors. We were on a night dive and came upon an octopus hiding in some rubble. I got three pictures of him, each is quite different from the others. When we first found him, he was almost completely dark red. My flash startled it and in an instant, he turned entirely white. He swam into some coral and as you can see, he then matched his surroundings perfectly in both color and texture, completely camouflaged.
As a photographer I'm inspired by the unique colors and creatures underwater and it's exciting that my photographs have inspired something else, especially a yarn. Susan has a great eye for color and chose this photograph to be the inspiration for this new colorway in the Purl Diver Collection. I have to say, that it must have also inspired Sharon McMahon from Three Irish Girls. Her design really brings out the colors of the picture, they're all in there. Awesome! We love it!
