Needles! Needles! Needles!
Those of you who have been to A Good Yarn know that I love needles and notions. This fall there are so many new needles on the market that I've had a hard time deciding which to carry. We will, of course, maintain a large inventory of Addi Turbos and Addi Lace. Skacel has announced that the Addi Lace sets will be available soon, and I have several sets ordered.
Clover and Brittany Birch have made up my stock of bamboo needles, but I have added Chiagoo bamboos in certain sizes. They are the most amazing sock knitting needles. I have them in circulars and double points.
I just received my first order of Kollage Square needles. The square shape of the needles make it easier to hold on to the needles and therefore gentler on those with arthritic hands. The square handled crochet hooks are so comfortable.
DyacKraft handmade needles are made in Vermont and are the original Harmony needles. These, along with Lantern Moon Rosewood and Ebony, will spoil your hands. Lantern Moon is also coming out with interchangeable circular Rosewood and Ebony sets.
Finally, this week I'll be ordering Signature needles. They are hand crafted, machine tooled needles, that are the Rolls Royce of knitting needles. Wait till you knit with them, you won't believe the tips and the feel of these needles.
Let me know if there are any you want reserved or special ordered! |
Save the Date!
Can you believe that one year ago we opened the doors to A Good Yarn?
We will be celebrating this amazing past year on Saturday, November 6th. We are throwing a party to thank all of you for making this past year better than we could have ever imagined. When I decided to go ahead with my plans to open A Good Yarn, one of my top priorities was to create a space where everyone felt welcomed and comfortable. From Group Therapy to our Friday lunch bunch, I know we've accomplished that goal and many more.
So mark your calendars for Saturday November 6th. Food, fun, and giveaways!

Linda Kokin
Instructor, in her own words.
I've been knitting for more than 55 years. I started very young (circular needles in utero) and was taught by my mother. I've been in love with sock knitting for almost 15 years. Sock knitting gives you the ability to do all kinds of fancy things in a small project. Socks are ideal for Florida knitting - they're not hot on your lap like a sweater and extremely portable. I'm enamored with knitting on 2 circular needles. I don't get to drop d.p.n's all over the place. Lace fits on socks beautifully. I love to create cables, work with color and learn new techniques. My latest is a pair of socks with a pattern that is mostly purls. Since I'd rather knit than purl, I've turned the socks inside out and am knitting, not purling.
I adore knitting with the sumptuous yarns that Susan has in the shop. I am constantly being tempted. In a previous life I was in the financial side of business. I guess I've gone from stocks to socks! |
CHARITY KNITTING
As many of you know by now, our very good friend and instructor, Linda Kokin has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer.
We have decided to knit chemo caps to be donated to Florida Cancer Centers in her honor. They are her Doctors, and she has the utmost confidence in them. If you want to send Linda a note, you can email her at FloridaKnitter@comcast.net.
If you prefer snail mail, you can send a note to the shop. Linda Kokin A Good Yarn 7668 S Tamiami Trail Sarasota, Florida 34231
