Barbara Walker A Good Yarn Grand Opening Celebration! Saturday November 14

Saturday, November 14
The knitting pioneer, Barbara Walker, will be at A GOOD YARN from 11 am - 3 pm and, thanks to our knitty friends at Planet Purl, will lead a not-to-miss chat about all things yarn that will be broadcast to the world. If you're new to knitting you might not know that Barbara pioneered the top-down knitting technique and invented more knitting patterns that you can shake a knitting needle at. Her indispensable four-volume Stitch Treasury is still in print and a huge seller after more than 40 years. Together, they form the most comprehensive knitting stitch reference we've ever laid our eyes on - it is our humble opinion that no knitter should be without them! Barbara has also authored books about mosaic knitting, cable kitting, lace knitting and more. Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet a true knitting legend! If you can't make it into the shop, please join us in a web chat with Barbara Walker. To participate in the web chat, register with Planet Purl at www.planetpurl.com and tune in at 2p.m. If you're in Sarasota, feel free to come in and meet her in person. |
Manos Block Party Join us Saturday, October 31 at 1pm!
Join us the last Saturday of every month for a BLOCK PARTY. We will be knitting from the Manos Del Uruguay book Four Seasons. Each month we will start a new block, with a new pattern, and you decide how many blocks and how big the finished afghan will be. We carry a full palette of Manos Del Uruguay colors and if you don't see the color you want, we can order it!
If wool is not your fiber, you can still join us with the yarn of your choice. There is no charge for this fun afternoon!

Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool Festival
Duchess County Fairgrounds New York
It was great to be in the company of knitters last weekend at Rhinebeck's Sheep and Wool Festival, because it was COLD - the perfect weather to be inspired to knit!
A knitter's mecca, the festival had it all! Barn after barn of beautiful fibers, too-cute-for-words sheep and llamas, talented spinners and dyers and amazing undiscovered yarns! I couldn't get enough of Spirit Trail's Superwash Merino , Cashmere, and Nylon blend sock yarn and Ellyn Cooper's Carrea. A wool/silk blend - hopefully we'll have them in the store soon so you can discover them for yourself! Finally, a taste of Rhinebeck's famous, ever-so delicious fried artichokes and a slice of apple pie ala mode.
While I'm glad to be back in Sarasota armed with new yarns and new ideas (not to mention warmer weather), I can't wait for next year's fest! Who's coming with me?!
