Archie Granot's exquisite papercuts, such as "Matriarchal Blessings," at left, have renewed and enhanced a traditional Jewish art form. Granot uses multiple layers of interlaced designs to create three-dimensional reliefs. His unique works utilize Hebrew inscriptions and Jewish imagery. Granot's inspirations are biblical, Talmudic, rabbinical and Jerusalem among others. His work includes ketubot, blessings for the home, ceremonial objects and books, including a Haggadah.
Granot moved to Israel from London in 1967. He has a Masters of Philosophy inRussian Studies from the University of Glasgow and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Russian Studies from the Hebrew University. His work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, and at the Jewish Museum in New York City. He owns the Archie Granot Studio and Gallery in Jerusalem. (At right, Granot's "Destiny of Jerusalem.")
