Puppets Unite!

Tikvat Israel's spirited Purim Puppet Production will be performed on Purim, Sunday, March 20, at 11:15 am in the Social Hall. Life-sized puppets humorously re-enact the story of Purim. Cantor Helzner (or whatever she turns into for Purim) leads songs and a costume parade. Afterwards, TI members can pick up their Purim gift of Mishloach Manot.

Kabbalat Shabbat With Instruments

The next "KS with I" will be held on Friday, March 25, at 6:30 pm in the Flax Library.  There will be a pre-service reception at 5:45 pm, sponsored by Howard & Rosie Chernoff and Stan & Fran Kensky.

Cantor's Concert

This year's concert will be held at Tikvat Israel on Sunday, June 5, at 7:30 pm. It is called "Soul Songs: A Celebration of Piyutim." Piyutim are magnificant poems/songs inspired by liturgical traditions from the Persian, Iraqi,  Moroccan, Spanish, Chassidic & Israeli communities.

The concert will feature myself, Rabbi Joshua Maroof of Magen David Sephardic Synagogue, and the world-music instrumental quartet "Steve Bloom and ELAN." The members of the group play a combination of percussion, bass, mandolin, oud, guitar, flute, recorder and sax.

Sabbatical

I will be taking a sabbatical from May through August. I will be on the bimah for the two b'nai mitzvah during that time, officiating at weddings and, of course,  performing in the June 5 concert. Please let me know if you have any issues to discuss with me before May. I plan to devote some of my sabbatical time to new projects for the shul.
