From Shawl to Tallit:
Women's Network Offers 3-Hour Workshop That Will Show You How |
Tikvat Israel's Women's Network is offering a three-hour workshop on Sunday, Feb. 13, for women and teens interested in creating a Kosher tallit from a wide selection of soft, colorful, silk pashmina shawls. No special skills or creativity needed! Bobbi Gorban (at left, wearing one of her creations), a skilled artist and member of ArtSites, the Guild for Judaic Art, will walk you, step-by-step, through the process of transforming the vibrant, richly colored shawl of your choice into a wearable tallit. This is a great activity for everyone, including mothers and daughters (aged 13 and up).
The event will be held that Sunday from 1-4 pm (snow date is Feb. 27) and the cost is an amazing $20 per tallit ($35 for a mother-daughter team). To register, email Nancy Matheson at tieventrsvp@gmail.com or call her at 301-460-2069. Please indicate the name and number of attendees. Hello Tikvaites,
There is going to be a special Purim meal (seudah slishit) and celebration on March 20th which will include a talent show. We are looking for a few more good acts that are fun and/or funny and short. Examples are jugglers, tap dancers, storytellers, comedians (clean only, since there will be children present) or something that we haven't envisioned that you would like to share. We would expect the acts only to be at the most 5 minutes since we already have an action packed agenda.
If you have talent to share and are interested in becoming part of this first ever event, please reply directly to Lynn and Bill Spector at lcspector@comcast.net or call us at 301-340-7260 by February 13th.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

Mishloah Manot Sale
Now Through March 6
|

Tu B'shvat is over; can Purim be far behind? It is a Purim tradition to greet each other with a gift of food and goodies, and, once again, every TI family will receive a beautiful Mishloach Manot bag this Purim. A card will be enclosed listing the names of those sponsoring the bags. To have your name appear, and/or to order additional bags to distribute to family, neighbors, co-workers, etc., please see the ordering information in the January 16 letter you received. If you are a Tikvat Israel member and did not receive this letter, please contact the Synagogue office at 301-762-7338.
There are two ways to order, paper or on line. Paper forms are available on the TI Website, on the table outside the sanctuary, or in the synagogue office. Online orders must be placed through www.TikvatIsrael.HappyPurim.com. Proceeds will go to benefit the synagogue.
Questions? Contact Sherman Eisner at 301-598-0635 or alarminfo@aecurity.com.
Purim is about fun, friends and charity. Here's a way to do all three.
