Thursday, Nov. 11
ˇ 12:00 noon - Hazak Lunch and Program. Veterans Day Presentation by Tikvat Israel member Harvey Kaplan on "What it was like to be an American Jewish Soldier in New York, Vietnam, Europe and the World." Please bring a dairy lunch. Drinks and dessert will be served. The program will begin at 12:45.
Sunday, Nov. 14 ˇ 8:00-9:30 pm - Literary Café, honoring our own Dr. Herman Jacob Flax as long-time poet. The evening will feature readings from the writings of Dr. Flax, Paul Grayson and Shelly Goldin. Paul and Shelly will read their own writings. Judy Katz and Sam Freedenberg will read Dr. Flax's poetry. Marcia Bronstein will provide a musical interlude. Desserts, fruits, coffee and tea will keep attendees happy for a nominal fee of $5.00/person. Contributions to Tikvat Israel, honoring Dr. Flax, are welcome. RSVP expected in the TI office (301-762-7338) by November 10.

Yoga Is Moving to Thursday Evenings Starting Nov. 4

A new 6-  week session of Beginner's Yoga starts next week, and anyone interested in improving their overall health and well-being is invited to join in this safe Level 1 practice. No previous yoga background is required. Men and women of all ages, shapes and sizes are welcome. Note: participants should be free of severe injuries and special conditions. Dates: Thursday Evenings, Nov. 4 - Dec. 16 ( no class on Nov 25th - Thanksgiving Day) Time: 6:00 - 7:20 PM Location: TI Library Annex Cost for TI Members: $79.00/6 Week Session; $15.00/per class--Pay-As-You-Go Cost for Non-Members: $90.00/6 Week Session; $18.00/per class-- Pay-As-You-Go

Jim Joseph Preschool Scholarships Help Families Access Quality Jewish Education At Our ECC

For a second year in a row, The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington's Jim Joseph Preschool Scholarship Fund has provided scholarships enabling families with preschool children to participate in Jewish Early Childhood Education. Five families (seven children) from the Broadman-Kaplan ECC of Tikvat Israel were selected as recipients and are able to benefit from our wonderful program. It is the Federation's hope that this grant will help families access quality Jewish education that instills a love of learning a proud and joyful commitment to Judaism.

Family Day Art Workshop at TI, Sun., Nov. 14

Join us at the synagogue on Sunday, Nov. 14, from 2-4 pm for a Parent/Child art workshop--a prelude to the Washington Jewish Folk Arts Festival set for the following Sunday at the JCC in Rockville.
The ArtSites workshop will get your creative juices flowing and get you ready for the Festival and all it has to offer you and your family. The only cost is for supplies. You can register for the TI program at the Folk Arts Festival website--just click on "weeklong workshop registration" on this page (which includes details on the TI workshops).
