Yom Kippur 5771 Reminders:

Ticket Policy

For security purposes, tickets are required for entry into the building during the holidays. Please show them when you enter the front door. If you have tickets set aside at Will Call, please let one of our shomrim know. If you do not have your tickets, you will be asked to check in at the security guard table. If for some reason you are not on the list, please be prepared to show a government-issued ID. The ticket policy stated above will also apply to all guests participating in our services.

Food Drive

Please bring a bag of non-perishable food items to synagogue on Kol Nidre, this evening, September 17. Your bags will be collected by a representative of the Social Action Committee as you enter the synagogue lobby on Kol Nidre.

Parking

The parking lot at Tikvat Israel is not big enough to accommodate the large holiday crowds. We have also marked several extra spaces in our lot for Handicapped Access, and there are some parking spaces that have been reserved. We are fortunate to have use over Yom Kippur, both on Kol Nidre and during the day, of the parking lot at Rockville High School, right next door. It should provide enough parking for all. Please note that the parking lot at Francis Asbury Methodist Church, across the street, will also be available. The parking lot of Twinbrook Baptist Church will not be available for parking.

New Mahzorim

We are pleased to introduce the brand-new Mahzor Lev Shalem to Tikvat Israel for this year's High Holidays. In order to guarantee that everyone at our services will have a mahzor, we ask that you return your mahzor to the tables in the lobby if you are leaving the service and that it not be taken home. If you wish to purchase mahzorim for personal use, please contact the Tikvat Israel office.

Service Notes

Please be sure to pick up your Chai Campaign envelope when you arrive at services this evening. On Yom Kippur morning please pick up your Israel Bonds pledge envelope. In order to hear an update on current affairs in Israel and participate in the Yizkor Service, please plan to arrive by 11:00 am. The Rabbi speaks approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Yizkor service.

If you receive a Bimah honor, please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the time indicated on the letter indicating your honor. Please remember that leather shoes are not permitted on the Bimah during Yom Kippur Services. Slippers will be available for those who wish to wear them.

Afternoon Break Program

On Yom Kippur afternoon, join Sarah Fishman for an exploration of meditation, breathing and stretching exercises in the Flax Library Annex, from 4-5 pm.  All levels are welcome and no yoga experience is necessary, as this will be a very gentle and reflective session.  You may want to bring a change of clothes if you plan to participate, but come as you are and do what you can!

Our best wishes to all for a Happy, Healthy, and Sweet New Year. Gemar hatimah tovah.
