Jennifer Leitham | The Jazz Bridge Neighborhood Concerts Are Starting up! Dave Posmontier, Wendy Simon and Linda Watson-Patterson have a great lineup this season. Check out all the artists being featured here. To open the presentations at the Cheltenham Art Center, will be the incredible bassist Jennifer Leitham with pianist Tom Lawton and drummer Sherrie Maricle. Renowned jazz critic Leonard Feather called her a "left-handed virtuoso of the upright bass" and Leitham has appeared on over 100 recordings with some of the greatest names in jazz, including Benny Carter, George Shearing, Gerry Mulligan, Peggy Lee and Joe Pass. Leitham was also a member of the Tonight Show All-Stars. Aside from her wonderful work as a giant of the jazz bass, Jennifer Leitham is a transgendered person whose incredible personal story appeared in JazzTimes magazine last year. Don't miss her at the Cheltenham Art Center, 439 Ashbourne Rd, Cheltenham, PA on October 6th. One show: 7:30-9PM. Tickets are still $10/$5 for students.
Jim DeSalvo | At the Collingswood Community Center, Petra Garnett and I plan some wonderful surprises! Opening up our season will be Jim DeSalvo and his trio. He's a fantastic pianist who joined up with Kenny Dorham and Ahmed Abdul-Malik early in his career, began sitting in regularly with all the legendary players in the creative club environment of late sixties Greenwich Village and was a mainstay of the 1970s New York "loft scene" performing with artists such as Bob Berg and Charlie Haden. He's played with Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Gonsalves, Philly Joe Jones, and Joe Farrell. Don't miss this rare treat on October 7th in Collingswood at the same low ticket price. Next issue will feature our new Jazz Bridge Neighborhood Concerts in Ardmore and Germantown! Stay tuned . . . |
